About the Tall Fleabane
The tall fleabane is a type of perennial plant. This means it lives for more than two years. It doesn't die after flowering once. Instead, it comes back year after year. It can grow up to 60 centimeters (about 2 feet) high.
This plant spreads using special underground stems called rhizomes. Think of rhizomes like underground roots that can send up new shoots. This helps the plant grow in new spots nearby.
Where It Grows
Erigeron elatior is found in the western United States. You can see it growing in states like New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.
It likes to grow in certain places. These include mountain meadows and open areas in coniferous forests. It also grows in subalpine brush, which are areas with small bushes found below the tree line in mountains.
What It Looks Like
The tall fleabane produces beautiful flowers. Each stem can have between 1 and 6 flower heads. These aren't just one flower, but a group of many tiny flowers.
Each flower head has 75 to 150 pink or rose-purple ray florets. These are the petal-like parts you see on the outside. In the center, there are many yellow disc florets. These are the tiny, tightly packed flowers in the middle.
