Tallimba Public School: A Look Back
The Tallimba School was started to educate children in the Tallimba area. This area was once part of a large farm called Willandry Station. When a railway line from Barmedman arrived, farmers could easily send their wheat to ports and mills.
Many new settlers came from Victoria and South Australia. They took up land blocks, which were pieces of land between 640 and 800 acres (about 2.6 to 3.2 square kilometers). Even though it was hard to build a farm and home in the wild bush, people knew how important education was. So, on June 16, 1925, a school opened with 18 students.
More students joined, so a second teacher was hired in 1949. In 1950 and 1951, the school building was moved across the road. This new spot was safer from floods. The school had the most students in 1968, enough for three teachers. The Parents and Citizens (P&C) group has always helped the school. They often provided new facilities before they became standard equipment.
