Talmoon is a small, unincorporated community located in Itasca County, Minnesota, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It's nestled in a beautiful natural area.
Location and Surroundings
Talmoon is found between two other places, Deer River and Big Falls. You can find Talmoon where two state highways, Minnesota State Highway 6 and Minnesota State Highway 286, meet Itasca County Road 4. It's also right on the edge of Lake Jessie Township and Marcell Township. A pretty spot called Little Turtle Lake is nearby.
The community is located inside the huge Chippewa National Forest. Talmoon is about 19 miles north of Deer River. Other nearby communities include Bowstring, Marcell, Spring Lake, Bigfork, and Effie.
History of Talmoon
This community once had its own post office. It started out named Mack from 1912 to 1938. Then, for a short time, it was called Hayslips Corner from 1938 to 1939. Finally, it was known as Talmoon until its post office closed in 1954.
