Marcell is a small, quiet community in Minnesota, United States. It's not a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of Marcell Township in Itasca County.

Marcell's History
Marcell started out with a different name in 1905. It was first called Turtle Lake.
How Marcell Got Its Name
The name was changed to Marcell just one year later. This was because there were other places already named Turtle Lake. The new name, Marcell, honors a man named Andy Marcell. He was a conductor on an old train line called the Minneapolis and Rainy River Railway. He was involved in a train accident in the area.
Moving the Town Center
The very first center of the community was a store run by John Lundeen. It was located near Big Turtle Lake. But in 1910, the town center moved to where it is today. This new spot was closer to the railway tracks.

Marcell experiences a wide range of weather throughout the year. Summers are generally warm, while winters are very cold and snowy.
Temperature and Seasons
In January, the average temperature is around 5.5 degrees Fahrenheit (about -15 degrees Celsius). It can get much colder, with record lows around -51 degrees Fahrenheit (-46 degrees Celsius) in February. Summers are much warmer, with average July temperatures around 66.3 degrees Fahrenheit (19 degrees Celsius). The hottest days can reach into the 90s Fahrenheit (around 32-35 degrees Celsius).
Rainfall and Snowfall
Marcell gets a good amount of rain, especially in the summer months like July. The community also sees a lot of snow. January and December usually have the most snowfall, with over 12 inches (30 cm) each month.
