Tamron Hall is a well-known American journalist, TV host, and author. She was born on September 16, 1970. Since September 2019, she has hosted her own daytime talk show, Tamron Hall. This show has won her two Daytime Emmy Awards. Before her talk show, Tamron worked as a national news reporter for NBC News and an anchor for MSNBC. She also co-hosted Today's Take, which was part of the Today show.

Early Life and Education

Tamron Hall grew up in Luling, Texas. Her mother was a teacher, and her father served in the US Army for 30 years. Tamron studied Broadcast Journalism at Temple University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1992. After college, she moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to start her career in television.

Starting Her Career in TV News

Tamron Hall began her TV career at KBTX-TV in Bryan, Texas. She worked there as a general reporter. In 1994, she moved to KTVT in Fort Worth, Texas. She continued to work as a general reporter for four more years.

From 1997 to 2007, Tamron worked at WFLD in Chicago, Illinois. She had many different roles there. These included being a general reporter, a consumer reporter, and a host for a morning show called Fox News in the Morning. Tamron often reported on important local issues. She also covered many big news events, like a major train accident in Illinois.

In July 2007, Tamron joined the national news networks MSNBC and NBC News. She even had a special interview with Barack Obama before he announced he would run for US President in 2008. At MSNBC, she was a reporter and filled in as an anchor. She became well-known as a substitute anchor for Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Later, she co-hosted a show called The Big Picture.

Hosting NewsNation

In 2010, Tamron Hall hosted NewsNation with Tamron Hall. This show featured important interviews and covered news from the US, around the world, and entertainment. It aired on weekday afternoons. The show covered big American events, like a live broadcast from Ground Zero in New York City after the death of Osama Bin Laden. It also covered the final space shuttle launch in 2011 and Hurricane Isaac in 2012. Tamron also encouraged viewers to share their thoughts on news stories using social media.

Hosting The Today Show

On February 24, 2014, Tamron Hall became a co-anchor of Today's Take. This was the third hour of The Today Show. She co-hosted with Natalie Morales, Al Roker, and Willie Geist. This made her the first African American woman to co-anchor Today. On the day she signed her contract, she wore a jacket that belonged to American singer and civil rights activist Lena Horne. Tamron bought it from Horne's estate sale. Lena Horne has always been a big inspiration for Tamron.

In February 2017, Tamron decided to leave NBC. This happened after the network gave her Today co-hosting spot to another person. On February 1, 2017, NBC News and Tamron Hall announced together that she was leaving both NBC and MSNBC.

Her Own Talk Show: Tamron Hall

In July 2017, it was announced that Tamron Hall would produce and host her own daytime talk show. This show would be called Tamron Hall.

On August 8, 2018, Tamron made a new agreement with Disney–ABC Domestic Television. She would be the executive producer and host of a new daytime talk show. The show was picked up by ABC Owned Television Stations in late September 2018. In December 2018, Hearst Television also decided to air the show in many markets. On January 22, 2019, ABC Entertainment named Bill Geddie as an executive producer for the show, along with Tamron.

The Tamron Hall talk show officially started on September 9, 2019. It quickly became very popular, reaching over 85% of homes in the US.

In June 2020, Tamron Hall received three Daytime Emmy Awards nominations. Tamron won the award for Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host. This was special because it was the first time a new host won this award since it started in 2015. She also received an NAACP Image Awards nomination for her show. In September 2020, Tamron accepted the Gracie Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host. She dedicated this award to Breonna Taylor. In 2022, Tamron won her second Emmy for Informative Talk Show Host.

The show has been very successful. In November 2021, ABC announced that it would continue for its fourth and fifth seasons, through 2024. On April 15, 2024, the series was renewed for its sixth season.

Other TV Appearances and Books

In November 2021, CourtTV announced that Tamron Hall would host a true crime series called Someone They Knew... with Tamron Hall. The show started on January 9, 2022. It was renewed for a second season in June 2022, which premiered in February 2023.

Tamron also appeared on an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls in 2014. She and Bear Grylls hiked for two days in Utah, rappelled down cliffs, and cooked a squirrel. She also made a guest appearance as herself on the TV show General Hospital on September 13, 2019.

Tamron Hall is also an author. Her first novel, As the Wicked Watch, was published on October 26, 2021. It is the first book in her Jordan Manning mystery series. Her second novel in the series, Watch Where They Hide, was released on March 12, 2024.

In 2017, Tamron Hall started dating Steven Greener, who works in the music industry. They got married in early 2019 and live in Harlem. On April 25, 2019, Tamron announced that she had given birth to their son.

Tamron Hall is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
