Rapunzel and Cassandra look for a way to understand why Rapunzel's long, golden hair grew back. They meet Varian, a 14-year-old who studies science. Varian helps them, but his machines cause trouble in his village. They learn that Rapunzel's hair is now super strong and can protect people. As they leave, black rocks start to grow near Varian's village.

During a festival, an old shopkeeper named Uncle Monty doesn't like Rapunzel's new ideas for Corona. Rapunzel tries to find out why. She helps him in a race, and he wins. They still disagree, but they learn to respect each other.

Eugene wants to become a royal guard. Cassandra's father, the Captain of the Guards, makes it hard for him. Rapunzel is getting her portrait painted by a famous artist. Eugene finds out the artist is a fake. He catches the imposter and gets a job teaching the guards how to "think like a thief."

Cassandra trains for a tough competition called "Challenge of the Brave." Rapunzel also wants to join. Cassandra tries to stop her, but Rapunzel enters anyway. They both reach the final round. Rapunzel wins, but she gives the trophy to Cassandra, showing their strong friendship.

Rapunzel locks Cassandra and Eugene in a dungeon. She wants them to stop arguing and work together to escape. The Stabbington Brothers break out of jail and capture them. Cassandra and Eugene team up to defeat the brothers. They escape and learn to get along better.

Eugene's old friend, Lance Strongbow, comes to Corona. Cassandra doesn't trust him. Eugene helps Lance steal treasure from an old enemy. They find a ring with Corona's crest, and Eugene remembers he stole it years ago from Queen Arianna. Eugene tells the Queen the truth, and she forgives him. Lance promises to change and gives the treasure to an orphanage.

King Frederic and Eugene go on a mission to prank a rival kingdom. Eugene wants to earn the King's respect. They get caught, but escape and successfully prank King Trevor. Meanwhile, Rapunzel learns how to play pranks back in Corona.

A science fair is held in Corona. Varian asks Cassandra to help him with his project. Cassandra has guard duty, but she chooses to help Varian when his experiment goes wrong. After the fair, Varian shows Rapunzel and Cassandra the strange black rocks growing near his village. He decides to help them find out why the rocks are connected to Rapunzel's hair.

During a love festival, Cassandra acts secretive because she's seeing a guy named Andrew. Rapunzel suggests a double date. Andrew turns out to be part of a group that wants to steal an important book. With Rapunzel and Eugene's help, Cassandra stops him and gets the book back.

Attila is opening his own bakery, but people are scared of his helmet. The next day, Monty's Sweet Shoppe is destroyed, and Attila is blamed. Rapunzel investigates and finds out a goat was the real culprit. Attila and Monty decide to open a sweet shop together.

A flashback shows how Pascal became Rapunzel's friend in the tower. In the present, Pascal feels left out because Rapunzel is busy with royal duties. He runs away back to the tower. Rapunzel realizes he's gone and searches for him. She finds him and helps him escape an old enemy. They make up, and Rapunzel promises to spend more time with her best friend.

Eugene and Lance are asked to catch a thief. They find out the "thief" is two young homeless girls. Eugene and Lance try to help them. The girls steal Rapunzel's tiara and are running from the Baron, an old enemy. The girls return to help Eugene and Lance escape the Baron. Lance gets a new job as a chef.

Rapunzel and the Captain of the Guard get stuck in the Snuggly Duckling during a storm. The place is haunted by its old owner, Ruthless Ruth. Rapunzel discovers Ruth's dream was to hear her song sung. Everyone sings Ruth's song, and they are set free.

A new horse named Axel arrives and seems better than Max at everything. Only Max sees that Axel is tricking everyone. Axel plans to free Lady Caine from jail and steal gold. Max falls into a trap. Rapunzel realizes the plan and helps Max. They chase the villains, and Max defeats Axel. Max becomes a hero again.

It's Queen Arianna's birthday, and her sister, Willow, visits. Rapunzel and Willow become fast friends. Arianna feels left out. Willow gives Arianna a noisy pet. Arianna gets upset and throws away the pet's rattle. The pet multiplies and causes chaos. The sisters make up, get the rattle, and calm the creatures.

Rapunzel takes charge of the kingdom while her parents are away. A big snowstorm hits Corona. Rapunzel's parents get trapped in the mountains. Rapunzel learns the storm is a curse from an evil monster named Zhan Tiri. The black rocks spread near Varian's village. Varian's father, Quirin, gets trapped by the rocks. Varian asks Rapunzel for help, but she is busy with the storm and can't help him right away. Varian feels betrayed. Rapunzel orders everyone to leave the island. She then remembers a legend about a machine that can stop the blizzard. After all this, Rapunzel wonders if she can be queen, and Varian vows revenge.

After the blizzard, Rapunzel feels sad and can't paint. She takes an art class with a mysterious teacher. Other students disappear to a strange place by the sea. The teacher is a witch working for Zhan Tiri, the monster who caused the blizzard. The witch wants to free Zhan Tiri. Eugene and Cassandra try to rescue Rapunzel. Rapunzel realizes she must destroy a painting to trap the witch and Zhan Tiri forever. She saves her friends and feels happy again.

Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra accidentally drink a potion that changes their personalities. They ask Xavier for help. The potion makes everyone's personality flip, causing chaos during a royal visit. Rapunzel still manages to impress the visitor, and Corona forms an alliance. Rapunzel throws the potion vial into the river, where Varian finds it.

Rapunzel gets a message from Varian, who thinks he knows about the black rocks. He needs her help to find something called the bronze Graphtyc. Rapunzel and her friends go to Old Corona, which is now covered in black rocks. They meet masked figures who try to stop them. These figures are the Captain and the Guards, following King Frederic's orders to keep Rapunzel from learning about the rocks. Rapunzel finds part of a scroll that shows the magic golden flower.

Varian asks Rapunzel for help finding pieces of the mystical golden flower. He believes it can stop the black rocks. They go through old tunnels under Corona. When they find the flower, Varian betrays Rapunzel and steals it. He wants to use it to free his father. But his plan fails, and he realizes the golden flower's healing power is now inside Rapunzel.

On Rapunzel's 19th birthday, Varian attacks Corona with robots. King Frederic locks Rapunzel in her room for safety. Eugene and Cassandra help her escape to stop Varian. Varian uses his pet raccoon, now a wild beast, to attack the kingdom and kidnaps Queen Arianna. Frederic finds out Cassandra helped Rapunzel and tries to send her away, but she stays to help rescue the Queen. The Royal Guards, led by Cassandra, Eugene, Rapunzel, and Frederic, attack Varian's house. Varian tries to use Rapunzel's hair to free his father, but it doesn't work. Angry, he uses a giant robot to attack, threatening Cassandra and Arianna. The black rocks appear and trap Rapunzel. She uses her connection to the rocks to defeat Varian. Varian is arrested and promises revenge. Rapunzel sees the rocks have made a path away from Corona, and she feels she should follow it. After the credits, a mysterious warrior uses a special sword to cut through the black rocks.
