Tapas Paul (born September 29, 1958 – died February 18, 2020) was a famous actor and politician from India. He was one of the most well-known actors in Bengali cinema. Many people loved watching him in romantic movies, especially with actresses like Mahua Roy Choudhury and Debashree Roy.
Tapas Paul also received a special award called the Filmfare Award. Later in his life, he became a politician. He was a Member of Parliament for the Krishnanagar area. He won this position in the 2014 elections as a member of the Trinamool Congress party.
His first movie, Dadar Kirti (1980), made him very popular. It was a romantic drama directed by Tarun Majumdar. He continued his success with many other films. Some of his popular movies include Saheb (1981), Parabat Priya (1984), and Bhalobasa Bhalobasa (1985). He won the Filmfare Award for his acting in Saheb.
Tapas Paul also acted in a Bollywood movie called Abodh (1984). This was a special film because it was the first movie for the famous actress Madhuri Dixit. He worked with director Tarun Majumdar again in Bhalobasa Bhalobasa. In this movie, he was paired with Debashree Roy. Their pairing became very popular in the 1980s.
He made many other hit movies with Debashree Roy. These include Arpan (1987), Surer Sathi (1988), and Chokher Aloy (1989). He also worked with director Buddhadeb Dasgupta on films like Uttara (2000) and Mondo Meyer Upakhyan (2002). Tapas Paul passed away on February 18, 2020, due to heart problems.

Education and Learning
Tapas Paul studied bio science at Hooghly Mohsin College. This college is part of the University of Burdwan. He earned his degree there.
His Journey in Films
Tapas Paul's first movie was Dadar Kirti in 1980. The director was Tarun Majumder. He was discovered by chance while sitting in a train! An assistant director saw him and thought he would be perfect for a role.
He then met director Tarun Majumdar, who was looking for a new face. The movie Dadar Kirti became a huge hit. People loved Tapas Paul's role as a simple and innocent character named Kedar.
He worked with Tarun Majumdar again in the romantic movie Bhalobasa Bhalobasa (1985). In this film, he acted alongside Debashree Roy. This movie was also very successful. It made their on-screen partnership one of the most popular in the 1980s.
Tapas Paul and Debashree Roy starred in many other successful movies together. Some of these were Arpan (1987), Surer Akashe (1988), and Mayabini (1992). He also worked with director Buddhadeb Dasgupta on films like Uttara (2000) and Mondo Meyer Upakhyan (2002).

Tapas Paul was a member of the All India Trinamool Congress political party. He served as an MLA for the Alipore area. He held this position for two terms, from 2001 to 2009.
After that, he became a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Krishnanagar area. He served as an MP from 2009 to 2018.
His Family Life
Tapas Paul was married to Nandini Paul. She was a participant in a TV show called Bigg Boss Bangla (Season 2). They had a daughter named Sohini Paul. Sohini also became an actress in Tollywood, following in her father's footsteps.
