Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton (born July 28, 1950 – died June 29, 2023) was an important leader in Saint Kitts and Nevis. He served as the fourth Governor-General from 2015 to 2023. This role is like being the representative of the King or Queen in the country.

Early Life and Education of Tapley Seaton
Tapley Seaton was born on Saint Kitts. His parents were William A. Seaton and Pearl A. Seaton. He went to Epworth Junior School, Basseterre High School, and St. Kitts-Nevis Grammar School for his early education.
He then studied at The University of the West Indies in Jamaica. There, he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree. This degree is the first step to becoming a lawyer. He continued his legal studies at Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica. He earned his Legal Education Certificate, which allowed him to practice law. He also studied in France at the University of Bordeaux, where he completed a Diploma in French.
Tapley Seaton's Career in Law and Government
Seaton began his career in the St. Kitts-Nevis Judicial Service. This is the part of the government that deals with courts and justice. He worked as a registrar for the Supreme Court. He also served as a provost marshal and an acting magistrate.
In 1975, Seaton became a crown counsel for the Attorney General’s Chambers. He also worked as the High Court Registrar. In 1980, he became the Attorney General for St. Kitts-Nevis. He held this important legal position until 1995. In 1988, he was given the special title of Queen’s Counsel. This title is given to experienced lawyers who are highly respected.
Becoming Governor-General
On May 20, 2015, Seaton became the acting governor-general. This happened after the previous governor-general, Sir Edmund Wickham Lawrence, left office. On September 1, 2015, Queen Elizabeth II officially appointed him as the Governor-General. She made this decision based on the advice of Prime Minister Timothy Harris.
Other Important Roles
Besides his official duties, Seaton was involved in many other groups. He served on various boards and national committees. For example, he was a director for SSMC and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He was also involved with the Frigate Bay Development Corporation.
He was the president of the St. Christopher Heritage Society (now The St. Christopher National Trust). He also led the St. Kitts-Nevis Bar Association and the OECS Bar Association. These groups are for lawyers. He was a vice president for the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society. He also helped lead the St. Christopher National Trust. He was the chairman of Cable & Wireless (which used to be called SCANTEL).
Death
Sir Tapley Seaton passed away on June 29, 2023. He was 72 years old. He died about five months after he finished his term as Governor-General.
Awards and Honors
Sir Tapley Seaton received several important awards for his service:
He was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG) on November 9, 2015. This is a very high honor from the United Kingdom.
He was also made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) on October 23, 1985. This award is given by the monarch for personal service.
