Taurean James Green (born November 28, 1986) is a basketball player from America and Georgia. He played professionally for teams like Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski in Poland. Before that, he played college basketball for the University of Florida. He was part of the Florida Gators teams that won two national championships in a row in 2006 and 2007. Taurean also played for the national team of Georgia after becoming a citizen in 2010. His father, Sidney Green, was also a professional basketball player.

Growing Up and High School Basketball

Taurean Green was born in Boca Raton, Florida, in 1986. He went to a different high school each year. In his second year, his Westminster Academy team won the Florida Class 2A State Championship. Taurean was named the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of that tournament. He was also named Broward County 3A-2A-1A Player of the Year.

One of his most memorable games was when he scored 38 points and made nine 3-point shots against Dillard High School. He finished his high school career at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

College Basketball Success

Taurean received a scholarship to attend the University of Florida. He played for coach Billy Donovan's Florida Gators men's basketball team from 2004 to 2007. He was a starting player on the Gators teams that won the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament and the 2007 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. They also won the SEC Tournaments in 2006 and 2007.

During his time at Florida, Green scored over 1,170 points in just three seasons. Four of his teammates also scored over 1,000 points: Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer, Lee Humphrey, and Al Horford.

Professional Basketball Career

Playing in the NBA

On June 28, 2007, Taurean Green was chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2007 NBA draft. He was the 52nd player picked overall. In his first year, the Blazers sent him to their development league team, the Idaho Stampede, to get more playing time. Later, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets in February 2008.

In July 2008, he was traded to the New York Knicks. However, the Knicks released him just one day later.

Playing in Europe

In 2008, Green began playing in Europe. He signed with Basket Zaragoza 2002 in Spain. He scored 18 points in his very first game there. In 2009, he joined AEK Athens in Greece. He then returned to Spain in 2010 to play for CB Gran Canaria.

In 2012, he moved to Turkey to play for Tofas Bursa. In 2013, Green signed with Limoges CSP in France and helped them win the French League title in his first season. He later played for ASVEL Basket and Sidigas Avellino in Italy. In 2016, he went back to AEK Athens.

From 2016 to 2018, Green played for Bnei Herzliya in Israel. He had a great game in January 2018, scoring 28 points. He was named the Israeli League Round 12 MVP for his performance. In November 2018, he returned to France to play for the Antibes Sharks. He also played for Le Mans Sarthe in France from 2019 to 2020. His last professional team was Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski in Poland, where he played in 2020–2021.

The Basketball Tournament (TBT)

Taurean Green also played in The Basketball Tournament, which is a special competition shown on ESPN. In 2017, he played for a team called Pedro's Posse. In 2023, he played for Gataverse, a team made up of former Florida Gators players.

Playing for the National Team

Green has citizenship in Georgia. He played for the senior men's Georgian national basketball team in 2011. He averaged 11.0 points and 2.5 assists per game during the qualification tournament for EuroBasket 2011.

Coaching Career

Chicago Bulls

After finishing his playing career, Taurean Green joined the Chicago Bulls in 2020–2021. He worked as a Player Development Coordinator, helping players improve their skills.

University of Florida

In 2022, Green returned to the University of Florida's men's basketball program. He first served as the Director of Player Development. In this role, he helped the Gators get back to the NCAA tournament in 2024. The team won 24 games in the 2023–2024 season. In 2023, he was promoted to Assistant Coach, Player Development for the team.
