Taurean James Green (born November 28, 1986) is a basketball player from the United States and Georgia. He played professionally for many teams, most recently for Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski in Poland.
Green played college basketball for the University of Florida. He was part of the Florida Gators teams that won two national championships in a row in 2006 and 2007. He also played for the national team of Georgia after becoming a citizen in 2010. His father, Sidney Green, was also a professional basketball player.

Growing Up and High School Basketball
Taurean Green was born in Boca Raton, Florida, in 1986. He went to a different high school each year. In his second year, his team, Westminster Academy, won the Florida Class 2A State Championship. Taurean was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that tournament.
One of his best games was when he scored 38 points against Dillard High School. He made nine 3-point shots in that game! He finished his high school career at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
College Basketball Success
Green received a scholarship to play basketball at the University of Florida. He played for coach Billy Donovan's Florida Gators men's basketball team from 2004 to 2007.
He was a key player on the Gators teams that won the national championship twice in a row. They won the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament and the 2007 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. They also won the SEC Tournaments in 2006 and 2007.
During his three years at Florida, Green scored over 1,170 points. Four of his teammates also scored over 1,000 points: Joakim Noah, Corey Brewer, Lee Humphrey, and Al Horford.
Professional Basketball Journey
After college, Taurean Green started his professional basketball career. He played for teams in the NBA and then spent many years playing in Europe.
Playing in the NBA
On June 28, 2007, the Portland Trail Blazers chose Green in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft. He was the 52nd player picked overall.
In his first year, the Blazers sent him to their development league team, the Idaho Stampede. This was so he could get more playing time and practice. Later, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets.
On July 28, 2008, he was traded to the New York Knicks. However, the Knicks released him just one day later.
Playing in Europe
In 2008, Green moved to Europe and signed with Basket Zaragoza 2002 in Spain. He scored 18 points in his very first game there!
He then played for AEK Athens in Greece. In 2010, he went back to Spain to play for CB Gran Canaria. He also played in Turkey for Tofas Bursa.
In July 2013, Green joined Limoges CSP in France. He helped them win the French League title in his first season. He later played for ASVEL Basket and Sidigas Avellino in Italy.
In 2016, Green returned to AEK Athens. Later that year, he signed with Bnei Herzliya in Israel. On January 8, 2018, he had a great game, scoring 28 points! He was even named the Israeli League Round 12 MVP.
In 2018, Green went back to France to play for the Antibes Sharks. In 2019, he signed with Le Mans Sarthe in France.
Finally, in 2020, he signed with Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski in Poland.
Playing for Georgia's National Team
Taurean Green has citizenship in Georgia. He played for the senior men's Georgian national basketball team. He played in the qualification tournament for EuroBasket 2011. In those games, he averaged 11.0 points and 2.5 assists per game.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Taurean Green started coaching.
Coaching for the Chicago Bulls
From 2020 to 2021, Green retired from playing professional basketball. He then joined the Chicago Bulls as a Player Development Coordinator. In this role, he helped players improve their skills.
Coaching at the University of Florida
In 2022, Green returned to the University of Florida's men's basketball program. He became the Director of Player Development. He helped the Gators get back to the NCAA tournament in 2024. They won 24 games in the 2023–2024 season.
In 2023, he was promoted to Assistant Coach, Player Development for the UF men's basketball team.
