Taylor Chorney's Hockey Journey
Taylor Chorney was chosen by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2005 NHL Draft. He was the 36th player picked overall. Before joining the NHL, Taylor played college hockey at the University of North Dakota.
He also proudly represented the United States in international competitions. He played for Team USA at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, he was even the captain of the team!
Making His NHL Debut
Taylor played his first NHL game on April 10, 2009, with the Edmonton Oilers. His first point in the NHL came on October 12, 2009, when he helped set up a goal. He scored his very first NHL goal on February 15, 2011, against the Dallas Stars.
Over his career, Taylor played for five different NHL teams. After his time with the Oilers, he also played for the St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and Columbus Blue Jackets. Sometimes, players move between teams through a process called "waivers." Taylor was claimed by the Blues and then later by the Oilers again through this process.
Playing for the Capitals and Beyond
Taylor joined the Washington Capitals in 2015. He played for them for a few seasons. In 2018, he moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Even though he wasn't on the Capitals' team when they won the Stanley Cup in 2018, his former teammates gave him a Stanley Cup ring. This shows how much they valued his contributions to the team.
After playing for 8 seasons in the NHL, Taylor decided to play in Europe. He signed a contract with HC Lugano in Switzerland in 2018. He played there for two seasons. Later, he played for EC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. Taylor Chorney officially retired from professional hockey after the 2020–21 season.
