Taylor Chorney, born on April 27, 1987, is a former professional ice hockey player. He was a defenceman, which means he helped protect his team's goal. Taylor played for several teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) for eight seasons. These teams included the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and Columbus Blue Jackets. He also played professionally in Europe.

Taylor Chorney's Hockey Journey
Before joining the NHL, Taylor Chorney played college hockey. He played for the University of North Dakota team. In 2005, the Edmonton Oilers picked him in the NHL Draft. He was the 36th player chosen that year.
Taylor also played for the United States national team. He competed in the World Junior Championships in 2006. The next year, in 2007, he was the captain for Team USA at the World Juniors.
Starting in the NHL
Taylor Chorney played his first NHL game on April 10, 2009. This was against the Calgary Flames. He earned his first NHL point by helping with a goal on October 12, 2009. This happened during a game against the Nashville Predators.
His first NHL goal was scored on February 15, 2011. He scored it against the Dallas Stars while playing at Rexall Place.
Moving Between Teams
In 2011, Taylor was picked up by the St. Louis Blues. He played only two games with them. Soon after, the Edmonton Oilers claimed him back.
In 2012, he signed a new contract to return to the St. Louis Blues. Then, in 2014, Taylor joined his third NHL team. He signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He played most of that season with their minor league team. However, he did play in 7 games for the Penguins.
Playing for the Capitals and Blue Jackets
On July 1, 2015, Taylor signed with the Washington Capitals. He played many games for them over a few seasons. In 2018, he was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He played only one game for them.
Even though he wasn't with the Capitals when they won the Stanley Cup, his former teammates gave him a Stanley Cup ring. This is a special award for winning the championship.
Playing in Europe and Retirement
After eight seasons in the NHL, Taylor decided to play in Europe. In 2018, he signed a contract with HC Lugano in Switzerland. He played there for two seasons.
For the 2020–21 season, Taylor played for EC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. After that season, he decided to retire from professional hockey.
Taylor Chorney's Family Life
Taylor Chorney was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. However, he grew up in Hastings, Minnesota, in the United States. He has citizenship in both Canada and the United States. This is because his father is Canadian and his mother is American.
Taylor's father, Marc Chorney, was also an NHL player. He played 210 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings. Taylor also has a younger brother, Marcus Chorney. Marcus has played hockey at a prep school and for Quinnipiac University.
