History of Taylorsville

Taylorsville started as a town in 1900. It was built along the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad. An employee of the railroad chose the spot. Soon after, a post office was built there. An old hotel, the Old Stringer Hotel, was built soon after. Sadly, it burned down in 1946. Taylorsville grew because of the many pine forests nearby. These forests were a great source of lumber. New businesses and homes were quickly built.

Today, Taylorsville has many different businesses. These include lumber, factories, sign making, farming, and finance. Taylorsville is also home to Southern Pine Electric. This company provides electricity to homes and farms. It started in 1938 and now serves over 65,000 customers.
