The name "Tembleque" comes from an old language spoken in the Iberian Peninsula. Many towns from that time had names ending in "que."

After the Reconquista, a long period when Christian kingdoms took back land from Muslim rule in Spain, Tembleque became part of the Knights Hospitaller. These were a group of knights who were also like monks. They helped people and fought in wars.

Tembleque's Coat of Arms

Every town has a special symbol called a coat of arms. Tembleque's coat of arms shows three towers on a small mountain. It also has a cannon. The cannon is there to remind everyone of the town's history with artillery, which means big guns used in warfare.
