Terence Kongolo (born February 14, 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for NAC Breda. He grew up in the famous Feyenoord youth system. He played for them until 2017. Later, he joined clubs like Monaco, Huddersfield Town, and Fulham.
Terence was born in Switzerland to parents from Congo. He moved to the Netherlands when he was four years old. He has played for the Netherlands national team. He was part of the Dutch squad that finished third at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Early Life and Family
Terence Kongolo was born in Fribourg, Switzerland. His parents, Editha and Erik, are from Congo. When Terence was four, his family moved to the Netherlands. Even though he grew up in the Netherlands, he still has Swiss citizenship. Terence is the oldest of three brothers. His younger brothers are Rodney, born in 1998, and Fidel.
Club Football Journey
Starting at Feyenoord
Terence Kongolo joined the Feyenoord football academy when he was just 8 years old. He worked his way up through the youth teams. In June 2010, he signed his first professional contract with the club. A year later, he joined the main team for the 2011–12 season.
He made his first team debut on April 14, 2012. This was in a 3–0 win against Excelsior. He signed a new contract to stay with Feyenoord until June 2015.
First Goals and Challenges
In the 2012–13 season, Terence started his first league game on August 24, 2012. This was against Heracles Almelo, and Feyenoord won 2–1. He scored his first goal for Feyenoord on September 26, 2012. This was in a cup game against NEC, which Feyenoord won 3–2. He scored again in another cup match on November 1, 2012. Later that season, he had a knee injury that kept him out for a while.
Becoming a Regular Player
For the 2013–14 season, Terence started playing more often for the first team. He often played as a centre-back. He made eighteen appearances that season. Before the 2014–15 season, other European clubs were interested in him. But on July 28, 2014, he signed a new three-year contract with Feyenoord. He became a key player, often partnering with Sven van Beek in defense. He played forty-five games that season.
Winning Trophies with Feyenoord
In the 2015–16 season, Terence became a regular left-back. He helped Feyenoord win the KNVB Cup in 2016. He played in the final against Utrecht, which Feyenoord won 2–1. He signed another contract extension, keeping him until 2018.
During the 2016–17 season, Terence continued to play well. He scored his first professional league goal on September 25, 2016. This was in a 5–0 win against Roda. Moving to Monaco

Time at Huddersfield Town
On January 2, 2018, Terence joined Premier League club Huddersfield Town. He first joined on loan until the end of the season. He made his debut for them on January 13, 2018.
Huddersfield Town signed him permanently on June 8, 2018. This was a club record fee. He scored his first goal for Huddersfield on December 4, 2018, against Bournemouth. The 2018–19 season was tough for Huddersfield. They were relegated from the Premier League.
Terence stayed with Huddersfield for the first half of the next season. On January 16, 2020, he joined Fulham on loan. Fulham was also in the Championship at the time. He made his debut for Fulham in an FA Cup game on January 26, 2020. He played only one league game for Fulham before getting a foot injury.
Playing for Fulham
Terence Kongolo joined Fulham permanently on October 16, 2020. Fulham had been promoted back to the Premier League. He returned from his injury on January 9, 2021, playing in an FA Cup win against Queens Park Rangers.
Later, he went on loan to Ligue 2 side Le Havre for the 2022–23 season. On September 1, 2023, he joined Austrian Bundesliga club SK Rapid Wien on loan. Fulham announced on June 5, 2024, that Terence would be leaving the club.
Returning to the Netherlands with NAC Breda
On September 2, 2024, Terence Kongolo returned to the Netherlands. He signed a two-year deal with Eredivisie side NAC Breda.
International Career
Youth Teams
Terence Kongolo could have played for the Netherlands, Switzerland, or DR Congo. He chose to play for the Netherlands. He played for the Netherlands U15 and U16 teams. He was first called up to the Netherlands U17 in September 2010. He scored on his debut against Germany U17.
Terence was part of the Netherlands U17 team that won the European Championship in 2011. He scored in the final against Germany U17, helping his team win 5–2. He was also named to the Team of the Tournament.
He later played for the Netherlands U18 and U19 teams. He made his Netherlands U21 debut in August 2013.
Senior National Team
Terence's good performances for Feyenoord led to him being called up to the senior team. This was for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He made his senior national team debut on May 17, 2014, in a 1–1 draw against Ecuador.
He was part of the twenty-three-man squad for the World Cup. He played one game in the tournament, coming on as a substitute against Chile. The Netherlands finished third in the World Cup, and Terence received a bronze medal. He has played a total of four games for the senior national team.
