Becoming an Architect and Designer
Teresa Sapey studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Turin in Italy. This was in 1985. She then continued her studies in París, France. There, she earned a degree from the Parsons School of Design. She also got a master's degree from La Villette.
Starting Her Own Studio
In 1990, Teresa moved to Madrid, Spain. She started her own architecture studio there. Today, she still leads this studio. Her partner and daughter, Francesca Heathcote Sapey, work with her.
Teaching and Collaborations
Teresa Sapey has also shared her knowledge with others. She taught "Plastic Investigation" at Universidad Camilo José Cela in Madrid. She has also been a visiting professor at many universities around the world. These include McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy.
One of her most famous projects was the Hotel Puerta América in Madrid. She designed the parking area for this hotel. This was a special project because 18 different architects worked together. Famous names like Jean Nouvel and Zaha Hadid were part of it.
Awards and Recognitions

- 2023: She won the Archiproducts Outdoor Design Award for her "Romana" design.

- 2024: She was honored with the Tempietto di Bramante Award.
Her studio has often been listed among the top 100 design studios. This recognition comes from the Spanish edition of Architectural Digest. She was on this list most recently in 2024.
