Terrence Adrian Clarke (born September 6, 2001 – died April 22, 2021) was a talented American college basketball player. He played for the Kentucky Wildcats in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Terrence was a star player for his Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team, Expressions Elite.
He started his high school basketball journey at Rivers School. Later, he moved to Brewster Academy. There, his team won the 2019 National Prep Championships. Terrence was chosen as a McDonald's All-American. He was considered a top five-star recruit and one of the best shooting guards in his class. After playing one season for Kentucky, he decided to enter the National Basketball Association (NBA) draft.
Sadly, Terrence Clarke died in a car crash in Los Angeles, California, on April 22, 2021. He was only 19 years old. This happened just three months before the NBA draft. To honor him, the NBA named him an honorary selection in the 2021 NBA draft.

Terrence Clarke's Early Life and High School Career
Terrence Clarke was born on September 6, 2001, in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents were Osmine Clarke and Adrian Briggs. He first went to Rivers School in Weston, Massachusetts. After his first year, he moved to Brewster Academy.
At Rivers School, he was named to the all-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council class B team. At Brewster, he helped his team win the 2019 National Prep Championships. In his senior year, Clarke averaged 18.3 points per game, 5.8 rebounds, and three assists per game. Brewster Academy finished that season with an impressive 34–3 record. The National Prep finals were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clarke was chosen for the McDonald's All-American Game. This is a special all-star game for top high school basketball players. He was also named a Sports Illustrated third-team All-American. This means he was one of the best high school senior players in the United States.

Top sports scouting services like Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports all rated Clarke as a five-star recruit. Rivals and 247Sports ranked him as the eighth-best player in the 2020 class. ESPN ranked him as the tenth-best.
On September 14, 2019, Clarke announced he would play for Kentucky. He chose Kentucky over offers from other big schools like Boston College, Duke, and UCLA. He also announced that he was moving up a year in his class, reclassifying to the class of 2020. Before this, ESPN had ranked him as the number two player in the 2021 class.
Terrence Clarke's College Career at Kentucky
Terrence Clarke made his college debut on November 25, 2020. He scored 12 points, grabbed four rebounds, made four assists, and had three steals. This helped Kentucky win 81–45 against Morehead State.
He played only eight games during the season because of a right leg injury. He started in six of those games. He averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and two assists per game. Clarke scored his highest college points, 22, against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on December 6, 2020. He ended his college career with 77 points in total.
On March 19, 2021, Clarke announced he would leave college early. He decided to enter the 2021 NBA draft. The day before he passed away, Clarke signed with Klutch Sports Group, a well-known sports agency.

Terrence Clarke died on April 22, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. This happened after he was in a car crash. He had just finished a workout with his teammate Brandon Boston Jr..
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that Clarke was driving very fast. He ran a red light and hit another car that was turning. His car then hit a pole and a wall. He was driving a 2021 Genesis GV80 and was not wearing his seat belt correctly. He was 19 years old. His agent, Rich Paul, said Clarke was very motivated and in the best shape of his life. He was working hard to be a top pick in the 2021 NBA draft.
On July 29, 2021, during the 2021 NBA draft, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made a special announcement. He named Clarke a ceremonial pick. This honored Clarke's dream of being drafted into the NBA. Clarke's mother, Osmine, his brother Gavin, and his sister Tatyana accepted the honor for him. During the NBA's 2021–22 All-Star weekend, his mother received an honorary jersey for him at the Rising Stars Challenge game.
