Terrence Alexander Jones (born January 9, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He last played for Piratas de Quebradillas in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) league. Before playing professionally, he was a college basketball star for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Terrence Jones' High School Basketball Journey

Jones was a highly-rated basketball player in the class of 2010. He was ranked among the top players by major scouting services. Terrence led Jefferson High School to three state championships in Oregon. These wins happened during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.

As a junior in 2008–09, he averaged 32 points and 13 rebounds per game. He also had five assists, three blocks, and three steals. In his senior year (2009–10), he averaged 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Jones was chosen for important national games. He played in the 2010 Nike Hoop Summit and the 2010 McDonald's All-American Game. He also played in the 2010 Jordan Brand Classic.

Choosing a College Team

Jones first decided to play for Washington in April 2010. However, he changed his mind. In May 2010, he chose to play for Kentucky instead.

Terrence Jones' College Basketball Career

Jones made a big splash in his first game for Kentucky. He scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He and teammate Doron Lamb were the first freshmen at Kentucky to score 20 points in their debut game.

In January 2011, Jones set a new scoring record for a Kentucky freshman. He scored 35 points against Auburn University. This record was set just one month after Doron Lamb scored 32 points. The Wildcats reached the 2011 Final Four tournament. They lost by just one point to the University of Connecticut. Jones and Lamb decided to stay at Kentucky for a second year. As a freshman, he averaged 15.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

For his sophomore year, Jones was part of a very exciting Kentucky team. Many people thought they would be one of the best teams ever. In October 2011, Jones scored a school-record 52 points in a practice game. During the 2011–12 season, he averaged 12.3 points and 7.2 rebounds. He helped Kentucky win their eighth national championship in the NCAA tournament that season.

In April 2012, Jones and five other Kentucky players entered the NBA draft. All six players were drafted, which set a record. This was the most players from one school ever drafted in the NBA.

Terrence Jones' Professional Basketball Career

Playing for the Houston Rockets (2012–2016)

The Houston Rockets picked Terrence Jones as the 18th player in the 2012 NBA draft. During his first year, he also played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This team is part of the NBA Development League, which helps players get ready for the NBA.

In January 2014, Jones had his best scoring game in the NBA. He scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the Milwaukee Bucks. He became one of the youngest Rockets players to score 30 points or more.

Jones faced some injuries during the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons. He missed many games due to a nerve issue in his leg. He also had a concussion and other minor injuries.

Time with the New Orleans Pelicans (2016–2017)

In July 2016, Jones signed with the New Orleans Pelicans. In November 2016, he scored 26 points while filling in for an injured teammate. In January 2017, he tied his career high with 36 points in a win against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He left the Pelicans in February 2017.

Short Stint with the Milwaukee Bucks (2017)

Jones then signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in March 2017. He played in only three games for the Bucks before leaving the team in April 2017.

Playing Overseas: China and G League (2017–2019)

In August 2017, Jones joined the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles in China. He played nine games there, averaging 22.3 points and 11.2 rebounds. Later, he played for the Santa Cruz Warriors and the Erie BayHawks in the NBA G League.

Return to the Houston Rockets (2019)

In February 2019, Jones signed a short contract to return to the Houston Rockets. He played a few games and also spent time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. After his contract ended, he did not stay with the Rockets.

Success in the Philippines (2019)

In May 2019, Jones joined the TNT KaTropa team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He had an amazing debut, scoring 41 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. In his next game, he scored 43 points and had 22 rebounds, which were career highs for him.

Jones continued to have strong performances, including another 40-point game. He also achieved his first professional triple-double, with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 16 assists. He later scored a career-high 49 points in another game. Jones recorded two more triple-doubles during the conference.

In August 2019, Terrence Jones was named the PBA's Best Import of the Conference. This is a big award for foreign players in the league.
