Terry Fitzgerald Moorer (born January 20, 1961) is an important judge in the United States. He serves as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. Before this, he was a United States magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama.

Early Life and Education
Terry Moorer was born on January 20, 1961. He grew up in Greenville, Alabama. He worked hard in school to prepare for his career in law.
He first earned an Associate of Arts degree from the Marion Military Institute. After that, he went to Huntingdon College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then studied law at the University of Alabama School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. This degree is needed to become a lawyer.
A Career in Law and the Military
Before becoming a judge, Mr. Moorer had a busy career. He worked as an Assistant United States Attorney. This means he represented the U.S. government in legal cases. He worked for the Middle District of Alabama.
He also served in the military. He was a Command Judge Advocate in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. This role meant he was a lawyer for the military. He also worked at Fort Rucker as an attorney.
Mr. Moorer was a Colonel in the Alabama National Guard. He helped create the Alabama Code of Military Justice. This is a set of laws for the military in Alabama. He served in the military from 1981 to 2014.
Becoming a Federal Judge
Terry Moorer became a United States magistrate judge on January 3, 2007. He served in this role for the Middle District of Alabama. He held this position until September 4, 2018.
In 2017, President Donald Trump decided to nominate Mr. Moorer to become a United States district judge. This is a higher level of judge. He was nominated for a seat in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. This seat became open when Judge William H. Steele retired.
The Senate had to approve his nomination. After hearings and votes, his nomination was confirmed on August 28, 2018. He officially became a district judge on September 4, 2018.
Important Court Decisions
As a federal judge, Terry Moorer has been part of important decisions. He was one of three judges who ruled that Alabama's proposed new voting maps were unfair. They said the maps did not follow Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. This law helps protect voting rights for all citizens.
The United States Supreme Court later agreed with the judges' ruling. This happened in a case called Allen v. Milligan. This decision was very important for voting rights in Alabama.
