Teuvo Teräväinen (born September 11, 1994) is a professional ice hockey player from Finland. He plays as a forward for the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Blackhawks chose him in the first round of the 2012 NHL entry draft. He is known for his great skills in scoring and setting up goals. In 2015, Teuvo helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup, which is one of hockey's biggest trophies.

Teuvo Teräväinen's Hockey Journey
Starting with Jokerit
Teuvo Teräväinen grew up playing hockey in the Jokerit youth system in Finland. He made his first appearance in the top Finnish league, SM-liiga, on October 18, 2011. He was only 17 years old then!
He quickly became an important player for the team. He played 40 games and won the Jarmo Wasama memorial trophy as the best rookie (new player) of the year. During this time, he was also ranked as one of the best young players in Europe for the NHL draft. The Chicago Blackhawks picked him 18th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.
In his second season with Jokerit, Teuvo scored 31 points in 44 games. After that, he signed a three-year contract with the Blackhawks. He went to their training camp but returned to Jokerit for the 2013–14 season.
When Jokerit's main center player left, Teuvo became the team's new top center. He started the season a bit slowly. But after a great performance at the World Junior Championships, he got much better. He went on a 13-game streak where he scored 5 goals and 18 assists. He finished that season with 44 points in 49 games.
Playing for the Chicago Blackhawks
Teuvo played his first game for the Blackhawks on March 25, 2014. They won 4–2 against the Dallas Stars.
He scored his very first NHL goal on January 16, 2015, against the Winnipeg Jets. During Game 1 of the 2015 Stanley Cup Finals, Teuvo scored a goal that tied the game. Later, he stole the puck and helped set up the winning goal for his team. He was one of the youngest players ever to score a goal in the Stanley Cup Finals. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2015, his first full season. He scored ten points in 18 playoff games that year.
Time with the Carolina Hurricanes

On June 15, 2016, Teuvo was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes' general manager, Ron Francis, was very happy about getting him. He said Teuvo had good hockey sense and skating skills. He believed Teuvo would help the team score more goals.
In his first season with the Hurricanes, Teuvo set new personal bests for games played, goals, assists, and points. Because of his great play, he signed a new contract with the Hurricanes on June 15, 2017.
In the first year of his new contract, Teuvo continued to play very well. He scored his first natural hat-trick (three goals in a row) for the Hurricanes on November 13, 2017. This happened in a 5–1 win against the Dallas Stars. He scored three goals in just over seven minutes! This made him the first Hurricane to get a natural hat trick since 2010. He ended that season with 23 goals and 41 assists, totaling 64 points in 82 games.
On January 21, 2019, Teuvo signed a new five-year contract with the Hurricanes. He helped the Hurricanes reach the NHL Conference Finals in the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs. They won against the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders. Teuvo led the team with seven goals in those playoffs.
In the 2019–20 season, Teuvo led the Hurricanes with 48 assists before the season was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He helped the Hurricanes get to the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Teuvo missed the start of the 2020–21 season because of COVID-19 rules. He returned to play in February 2021. However, he later got a concussion from a hit during a game. He tried to return but had more symptoms. He finally came back to play for the rest of the season on April 27. He helped the Hurricanes reach the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs.
During the 2022–23 season, Teuvo played in 68 regular season games. He scored 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points. The Hurricanes made it to the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. Teuvo broke his hand in the second game of the playoffs. He had surgery and was able to return for the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Back with the Chicago Blackhawks
On July 1, 2024, Teuvo Teräväinen signed a new contract to return to the Chicago Blackhawks. He signed for three years, bringing his career full circle back to the team that drafted him.

Teuvo has played for Finland in many international tournaments for young players. He played in the World Junior Championships several times. In the 2013 tournament, he scored 11 points, which was fourth-best in the whole tournament.
In the next year, he was named the captain of the Finnish team. He led Finland all the way to the final game. In the final, Finland beat Sweden 3–2 in overtime. Teuvo helped set up all three of Finland's goals! He was the top scorer in the entire tournament.
After the Carolina Hurricanes did not make the playoffs in 2018, Teuvo was chosen to play for the Finnish team in the 2018 IIHF World Championship.
Personal Life
Teuvo Teräväinen has a younger brother and sister. His father is a dentist. His brother, Eero, also plays hockey as a defenseman for KooKoo in the Finnish Liiga. His sister, Satu, played for the Finnish women's national under-18 ice hockey team in 2019.
