He was a star player for the Indiana Hoosiers in college. In 2014, he was named a unanimous All-American, which means he was one of the best college players in the country. The Atlanta Falcons picked him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He also played for the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets.

Tevin Coleman grew up in Oak Forest, Illinois. He went to Oak Forest High School. Tevin was a very talented athlete. He played many positions on the football team. These included running back, wide receiver, and cornerback. He also returned kicks and punts.

High School Achievements

In 2011, Tevin was named the Southtown Star Player of the Year. During his senior year, he ran for 949 yards. He scored 13 touchdowns by running. He also caught 16 passes for 345 yards and five touchdowns.

Tevin was also a great track and field athlete. He was one of the best sprinters and long-jumpers in Illinois. In 2011, he placed fourth in the 100-meter dash. He also finished second in the long jump with a personal best of 7.16 meters.

College Recruitment

Experts thought Tevin was a three-star recruit. This meant he was a good player coming out of high school. He was ranked as one of the top running backs in the country. Tevin chose to play college football at Indiana University. He had other offers from big schools like Georgia Tech and Michigan State.

College Football Career

Tevin played college football for Indiana University from 2012 to 2014. He played for coach Kevin Wilson.

Freshman and Sophomore Years

In 2012, as a freshman, Tevin played in 12 games. He ran for 225 yards and scored one touchdown. He also returned kicks for 566 yards and another touchdown.

As a sophomore in 2013, Tevin started the first nine games. He had to miss the last three games because of an ankle sprain. Even with the injury, he finished the year with 958 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

Junior Year and Record Breaking Season

Tevin had an amazing junior season in 2014. In his first game, he ran for 247 yards and two touchdowns. He continued to have huge games throughout the season. Against Rutgers, he ran for 307 yards. This was the second-highest rushing total in Indiana school history.

On November 22, he ran for 228 yards and three touchdowns against Ohio State. Tevin finished the 2014 season with 2,036 rushing yards. He became only the 18th player in NCAA Division I FBS history to run for over 2,000 yards in a single season. He also broke Indiana's school record for rushing yards in a season.

Tevin was one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award. This award goes to the best running back in college football. He also finished seventh in the voting for the Heisman Trophy. The Heisman Trophy is given to the most outstanding player in college football.

After his incredible junior season, Tevin decided to enter the 2015 NFL draft. He chose to leave college early to play professional football.

Atlanta Falcons (2015–2018)

The Atlanta Falcons drafted Tevin Coleman in the third round in 2015. He was the 73rd player chosen overall. He signed a four-year contract with the team.

Rookie Season (2015)

Tevin made his NFL debut on September 14, 2015. He ran for 80 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. He scored his first NFL touchdown a week later against the New York Giants. He had his first 100-yard rushing game against the Minnesota Vikings. In his first season, Tevin rushed for 392 yards and one touchdown.

Second Season (2016)

In 2016, Tevin had a great season. He caught five passes for 95 yards in the first game. He scored a career-high three touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints. He also had his first touchdown reception, catching a pass for 132 yards against the Denver Broncos.

Tevin played in Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots. He scored a touchdown in the game. However, the Falcons lost in overtime. Tevin was very efficient that year, gaining 6.3 yards every time he touched the ball.

Later Seasons with Falcons (2017–2018)

In 2017, Tevin continued to be a key player. He scored the first receiving touchdown in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. He had two touchdowns in a game against the Buccaneers. He finished the season with 628 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. The Falcons made the playoffs that year.

In 2018, Tevin had his best rushing season. He ran for 107 yards against the Carolina Panthers. He became the main running back after an injury to another player. He rushed for a career-high 145 yards against the Arizona Cardinals. Tevin finished the season with 800 rushing yards. He also gained over 1,000 total yards from running and receiving.

San Francisco 49ers (First Time: 2019–2020)

In 2019, Tevin signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

He got injured early in his first season with the 49ers. But when he returned, he played very well. He ran for 97 yards and a touchdown against the Cleveland Browns. Three weeks later, he had an amazing game against the Panthers. He ran for 105 yards and scored four touchdowns! He was only the third 49ers player ever to score four touchdowns in one game.

Tevin finished 2019 with 544 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He also helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl LIV. In the playoffs, he ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns against the Vikings. The 49ers lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2020, Tevin had a knee injury and was placed on injured reserve. He returned later in the season.

New York Jets (2021)

In 2021, Tevin signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. He played in 11 games and was second on the team in rushing yards with 356. He was released by the Jets in August 2022.

San Francisco 49ers (Second Time: 2022)

Tevin returned to the San Francisco 49ers in September 2022. He first joined their practice squad. He was later signed to the main team. In a game against the Panthers, he scored both a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. He was released again in October 2022, but re-signed to the practice squad. His contract with the team ended in January 2023.
