Cecil Carlton Hughson (born February 9, 1916 – died August 6, 1993) was a famous American baseball player. He was a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox team for his whole career in the American League. He played from 1941 to 1944 and again from 1946 to 1949. Tex, as he was known, threw and batted with his right hand.
Early Life
Tex Hughson grew up in Kyle, Texas. He went to college at the University of Texas at Austin, where he played baseball.
Baseball Career
Tex Hughson had his best season in 1942. He won 22 games and lost only 6. His ERA was 2.59, which is very good. He led the league in many areas that year.

In 1943, Tex won 12 games. He had 114 strikeouts and a 2.64 ERA. He also led the league in complete games again (20). This was also his best year for hitting the ball. He got more hits, runs, and doubles than ever before.
After serving in the military in 1945, he returned to baseball. In 1946, he won 20 games. He also had a career high of 172 strikeouts. He helped the Red Sox win the pennant that year. After 1947, his career slowed down. He finished his time in baseball at age 33.

Legacy
Tex Hughson is remembered as a great player. He was added to the University of Texas Hall of Honor in 1970. In 1987, he joined the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. The Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame welcomed him in November 2002.
Personal Life
Tex Hughson was one of the first people in the United States to raise Charolais cattle. He also helped his local community. In the 1950s, he was on the school board. He helped lead the effort to make public schools open to all students, no matter their background. In the 1960s, he developed part of his ranch into a neighborhood called Hughson Heights.
He passed away in San Marcos at age 77. He is buried in the San Marcos Cemetery.
