The Adventures of Huck Finn is an exciting American adventure film from 1993. It was written and directed by Stephen Sommers. The movie stars Elijah Wood, Courtney B. Vance, Jason Robards, and Robbie Coltrane.
This film is based on the famous 1884 book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. It tells the story of a young boy named Huckleberry Finn and an escaped slave named Jim. They travel down the Mississippi River together, facing many challenges.
The Story of Huck's Journey
Huckleberry Finn lives with a foster family. One day, his father, Pap Finn, takes him away. Pap is not a good father and wants Huck's money. Huck decides to fake his own death to escape his father.
Huck then meets Jim, a slave who worked for Huck's foster family. Jim has run away because he fears being sold. They decide to travel together down the Mississippi River. Their goal is to reach Cairo, Illinois, where Jim can be truly free.
As they travel, they see a wanted poster for Jim. It wrongly says Jim murdered Huck. One night, they find a sinking boat. Huck sees his father's body on the ship. Their own small boat sinks, but they manage to get another one.
Their new boat is hit by a steamboat. Huck is separated from Jim and taken in by the Graingerford family. This family is in a long-standing fight with another family, the Shepherdsons. Huck tries to hide his true identity from them.
Huck becomes friends with Billy Graingerford. Sadly, Jim is found by the Graingerfords and becomes their slave. The family feud turns violent when Billy's sister runs off with a Shepherdson. Many Graingerford men, including Billy, are killed in a fight.
Huck and Jim continue their journey. They meet two con men, The Duke and The King. These two tricksters join Huck and Jim on their travels. The group arrives at Phelps Landing.
The King and The Duke pretend to be British relatives of the Wilks family. They try to trick three sisters, Mary Jane, Julia, and Susan, out of their money. Meanwhile, Jim is put in prison, mistaken for Huck's killer.
Huck learns that his father is truly gone. He hides the stolen money in a coffin. Huck then tells Mary Jane that The King and The Duke are fakes. He asks her to tell the town the truth at 10:00 AM.
A doctor named Robinson does not trust the con men. Soon, the real Wilks family members arrive. The town digs up the coffin and finds the money. The angry townspeople punish The Duke and The King.
Huck helps Jim escape from prison. But the angry crowd spots them. As they run away, Huck gets hurt. Jim bravely carries Huck back to the crowd, giving up his chance to escape.
Before the crowd can harm Jim, Mary Jane, Julia, and Susan arrive. They stop the mob from hurting Jim. The townspeople then set Jim free. Huck passes out from his injury.
Huck wakes up at the Wilks' home. He learns that Miss Watson, Jim's owner and one of Huck's old caretakers, has passed away. In her will, she set Jim free! Another caretaker plans to make Huck live a more "civilized" life. But Huck, telling his story, says he has "been there before." The film ends with Huck running off into the sunset, ready for new adventures.
