Ronald N. Perlman (born April 13, 1950) is a well-known American actor. He has played many different characters in movies and TV shows. Some of his famous roles include Amoukar in Quest for Fire (1981) and Salvatore in The Name of the Rose (1986).
He also played Vincent in the TV series Beauty and the Beast (1987–1990), which won him a Golden Globe Award. Later, he became famous as Hellboy in the movies Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008). He was also Clay Morrow in the TV series Sons of Anarchy (2008–2013).
Ron Perlman often works with director Guillermo del Toro. He has been in del Toro's films like Cronos (1993), Blade II (2002), and Pacific Rim (2013). He also voiced Optimus Primal in the movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023).
Besides acting, Perlman is a very busy voice actor. He has lent his voice to characters in video games and animated shows. He is known as the narrator for the Fallout video game series. He also voiced Slade in Teen Titans and The Lich in Adventure Time.

Early Life and Learning
Ronald N. Perlman was born on April 13, 1950, in Washington Heights, New York City. His mother, Dorothy, worked for the city. His father, Bertram "Bert" Perlman, was a jazz drummer and fixed televisions. His family is Jewish, and they came from Hungary and Poland. Ron had a Bar Mitzvah ceremony when he was younger.
Perlman once shared that he had low self-esteem as a child because he was overweight. He said this experience makes him like roles where he plays "deformed people who are very endearing." His father was very supportive and encouraged him to become an actor after seeing him perform in a college play called Guys and Dolls.
Ron Perlman finished George Washington High School in 1967. He then went to Lehman College and graduated in 1971. He continued his studies at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a master's degree in theater arts in 1973.
His Acting Career
Movies and TV Shows
Ron Perlman first appeared on TV in the soap opera Ryan's Hope in 1979. His first movie role was in Quest for Fire (1981). The director, Jean-Jacques Annaud, later said that Perlman was thinking of quitting acting when he offered him a role in The Name of the Rose (1986).
After several smaller roles, he got his big break as Vincent in the TV series Beauty and the Beast. He starred alongside Linda Hamilton from 1987 to 1990. For this role, he won a Golden Globe Award in 1989 for Best Actor in a TV Series.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he played many supporting roles in movies. Some of these include Alien Resurrection (1997), Enemy at the Gates (2001), and Blade II (2002). He also appeared in TV series like Highlander: The Series and The Outer Limits.
In 1995, Perlman played his first main movie role as "One" in the French film The City of Lost Children. In 2004, he got another lead role as the superhero Hellboy in the movie based on the comic book. He played Hellboy again in animated movies and in Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008).
From 2008 to 2013, Perlman was part of the TV series Sons of Anarchy. He played Clay Morrow, the leader of a motorcycle club. More recently, he has starred in films like Joe Baby (2022) and Cottonmouth (2024).

Ron Perlman married Opal Stone, a jewelry designer, on Valentine's Day in 1981. They had two children: a daughter named Blake Amanda and a son named Brandon Avery. They separated in 2019, and Perlman later filed for divorce. In 2022, he married his co-star Allison Dunbar in Italy. His son, Brandon, makes electronic music under the name Delroy Edwards.
Perlman is a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. In 2016, he joked on Facebook that he would run for U.S. President in the 2020 election. In 2019, he supported Kamala Harris for president. He also spoke out in support of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which were protests by actors and writers.
