In 2010, Edwards moved to New York City. He worked at A1 Records with Ron Morelli. Morelli later started the record label L.I.E.S.. Edwards released his first record, 4 Club Use Only, on this label in 2012.
After releasing several EPs with L.I.E.S., he started his own label in 2013. He named it L.A. Club Resource. On this label, he released his Slowed Down Funk mixtape series for free. These mixtapes used a style called chopped and screwed.
In 2014, a record label called The Death of Rave released Teenage Tapes. This album was a collection of experimental songs. Edwards had recorded them when he was in art school. In the same year, he started a techno project called DJ Punisher.
In 2016, Edwards released a 30-track album called Hangin' at the Beach. It came out on his L.A. Club Resource label. This album was described as his most complete work at the time. His next album, Rio Grande, was released in 2018. Also in 2018, he released Aftershock with L.I.E.S. This was his first album with them since 2013. Delroy Edwards' Musical Style
Delroy Edwards uses many different music styles in his work. These include house, techno, chopped and screwed, Memphis rap, noise, hardcore, and garage rock. However, his music often has a "lo-fi" sound. This means it sounds a bit raw or old, sometimes with tape hiss.
Critics have noted that Edwards mixes a classic 1980s feel with modern dance music. His work is often linked to the "outsider house" music scene. His EP 4 Club Use Only is considered an important release for this style.
His Slowed Down Funk mixtapes were inspired by DJ Screw. They featured slowed-down versions of Southern rap and 1980s R&B songs. These also had his signature hazy, lo-fi sound. His album Hangin' at the Beach featured fast, new wave-inspired electronic drums. It also had post-punk basslines.
Edwards' music often uses elements from classic Chicago house and old rap music.
