The Drop is a giant sculpture that looks just like a raindrop. You can find it in downtown Vancouver, Canada. This amazing artwork was created by a group of German artists called Inges Idee.
The sculpture stands about 65 feet (20 meters) tall. It is made from steel, covered with Styrofoam, and painted bright blue with polyurethane. The artists say The Drop shows how powerful nature is. It also reminds us about the water all around us in Vancouver. This cool sculpture was made for the Vancouver Convention Centre in 2009.
About The Drop Sculpture
The Drop is a big, blue sculpture that looks like a gentle raindrop. It seems to be caught right as it touches the ground. The inside of the sculpture has a strong steel frame. This frame is then covered with Styrofoam and painted a deep blue.
The blue color of The Drop matches the sky. It also stands out against the big yellow piles of sulfur you can see across the water.
History of The Drop
The Drop was created as part of an art project for the Vancouver Convention Centre. It was the very first time the German art group, Inges Idee, had a project in North America.
The sculpture was put up in 2009. You can find it at Bon Voyage Plaza, right next to the Vancouver Convention Centre. This spot is at the end of Burrard Street, along the waterfront in the Coal Harbour area of downtown Vancouver.
For a short time, The Drop was moved away during the 2010 Winter Olympics. This was so it would not block the view for television cameras.
