The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada facts for kids
The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada were a unique band that started in Santa Cruz, California, USA, in 1981. They were chosen as the "Best Alternative Rock Band of the Year" by LA Weekly. The band was formed by keyboardist Mary Jean Shaffer and guitarist Blancah Black. The Holy Sisters used special images that looked a bit like religious art. They also shared ideas about equal rights for girls and women.
Other early members included Heidi Puckett on bass and Jeff Grubic on tenor sax. As the band started playing more often in clubs, Blancah Black left. Two new members joined: Jill Fido on bass and Charles Bingham on drums. Later, Kim Sockit replaced Puckett, and Zero Jessephski Jr. replaced Bingham. This made The Holy Sisters of the Gaga Dada an all-female band. The group later moved to Hollywood, California. They were featured on a TV show called "Once Upon Her Time." This show was about women in the 1980s and was shown on the Lifetime Cablevision Network.
