The Lakes is a small area located on the eastern edge of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. It is part of the Shire of Mundaring. The Lakes is about 51 kilometers (32 miles) east of the main city area of Perth.
This area is special because it sits where two important roads meet: the Great Eastern Highway and the Great Southern Highway. It is the very last suburb on the eastern side of the Metropolitan Region Scheme, which is the official planning area for Perth. In 2021, only 20 people lived in The Lakes.

What Makes The Lakes Special?
The main things you will find in The Lakes are a roadhouse and a service station. These are located right at the busy junction where the two highways cross. This makes it a good stop for travelers.
Where is The Lakes Located?
The Lakes shares its borders with a few other places. To the west, it is next to the Shire of Northam. It also borders the community of Woottating.
Local Businesses and Industry
A company called Buckeridge Group of Companies (BGC) has a quarry in The Lakes. A quarry is a place where rocks, sand, or other materials are dug out of the ground. BGC uses large trucks to carry these materials from the quarry. They mostly travel along the Great Eastern Highway. The materials go to different places in the Perth area, including a factory near Perth Airport that makes bricks.
Traveling from The Lakes
From the highway junction in The Lakes, you can choose which way to go. If you take the northern road, you can travel to the town of Northam. If you choose the southern road, you will head towards York.
