The Shaggy Dog is a fun family comedy film from 2006. It was directed by Brian Robbins. This movie is a new version of an older film from 1959 with the same name.

In the original movie, a character named Wilby Daniels turned into an Old English Sheepdog because of a magic ring. But in this newer film, the main character, Dave Douglas, changes into a Bearded Collie after being bitten by a special dog. The movie stars Tim Allen, Robert Downey Jr., Kristin Davis, and Danny Glover.

The Shaggy Dog came out on March 10, 2006, from Walt Disney Pictures. It made about $87 million around the world.

Story of the Movie

Dave Douglas (Tim Allen) is a lawyer in Los Angeles. He works on a case against a teacher named Justin Forrester. Justin says a company called Grant and Strictland is doing secret and wrong things with animals. This makes Dave's daughter, Carly, upset with him. Dave also spends too much time at work. Because of this, he doesn't spend enough time with his wife, Rebecca (Kristin Davis), and his son, Josh (Spencer Breslin).

The Special Dog

Meanwhile, some greedy scientists work for Mr. Lance Strictland (Philip Baker Hall). Their leader is Dr. Kozak (Robert Downey Jr.). They have stolen a very old and sacred dog named Khyi Yang Po. This dog is a Bearded Collie. The scientists find out that Khyi Yang Po's special DNA could change people if it got into their bodies.

Carly finds Khyi Yang Po and brings him home. She calls him 'Shaggy'. One day, Dave is bitten by Khyi Yang Po. After a few days, Dave starts to change. He suddenly turns into a sheepdog, just like Khyi Yang Po! This happens when he sees things dogs like, such as a stick or a cat. He turns back into a human when he sleeps.

Dave's New Life as a Dog

While Dave is a dog, his family doesn't know it's him. They think it's just Khyi Yang Po. Dave learns a lot about his family by living as a dog. He realizes he needs to spend more time with them.

In the court case, Justin Forrester says he saw animals acting strangely at Grant and Strictland. He also mentions seeing a bearded collie. This makes Dave suspicious about the company. Dave's dog-like actions in court get him removed from the case.

Dave decides to find out what's happening at Grant and Strictland. He gets a janitor to help him turn into a dog. This way, he can sneak into the lab through a vent. Inside, Dave sees Dr. Kozak giving the company boss, Lance Strictland, a special medicine. This medicine would make Strictland unable to move for months. Kozak plans to take over the company. Dr. Kozak and his team soon realize that Dave can turn into a copy of Khyi Yang Po.

Revealing the Secret

When Dave gets home, still a dog, he hears Carly and Josh talking. They are worried that their parents might split up. Dave then knocks over a Scrabble game. He uses the letters to show his kids who he really is. But when Dave goes outside, Kozak's helpers catch him. The kids try to save him, but they grab the real Khyi Yang Po by mistake. They rush to tell their mom what happened.

Dave is taken to the lab. Dr. Kozak plans to get rid of him. But Kozak has to go to court. Before he leaves, Kozak makes fun of Dave, who is still a dog. Dave bites him back. The other animals in the lab, who are also changed, tell Dave to meditate. Dave turns back into a human. He escapes with all the other animals.

Dave drives to the courthouse. He calls his wife to bring him clothes. But he gets stuck in traffic and has to leave the car and animals. Dave runs on all fours to turn back into a dog. This helps him get to the courthouse faster. At the entrance, he tries to tell his wife he loves her. This makes him turn back into a human.

The Truth Comes Out

In the courtroom, Dave calls Kozak back to the stand. He tries to get Kozak to admit what he did. Kozak tries to hide his secret. Dave then makes fun of Kozak, saying he was always under Strictland's shadow. This makes Kozak angry. They start growling at each other. The judge is tired of Dave's dog-like behavior and tells a police officer to remove him. Dave grabs the officer's stick and tells Kozak to fetch. This makes Kozak partly change into a dog! This shows everyone that Kozak was doing illegal and wrong experiments.

The company is returned to Strictland. The changed animals are taken care of. Dave finally makes things right with his family.

At the end of the movie, the family is on vacation in Hawaii with Khyi Yang Po. Josh throws a frisbee, and Dave catches it with his mouth.
