Kristin Landen Davis (born February 23, 1965) is an American actress and producer. She is widely known for her role as Charlotte York in the popular HBO romantic comedy series ... and the City (1998–2004). For this role, she received nominations for the Emmys and the Golden Globes in 2004. She played Charlotte again in the movies ... and the City (2008) and ... and the City 2 (2010), and also in the show's continuation And Just Like That... (2021–present) on Max.

Kristin Davis got her first big acting opportunity in 1995. She played the character Brooke Armstrong in the TV show Melrose Place (1995–1996). Her movie roles include The Shaggy Dog (2006), Deck the Halls (2006), Couples Retreat (2009), Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012), and Holiday in the Wild (2019). She also performed on stage, making her Broadway debut in 2012 in The Best Man.

Early Life and Education

Kristin Davis was born on February 23, 1965, in Boulder, Colorado. She was an only child. Her parents divorced when she was a baby. In 1968, her mother, Dorothy, a university data analyst, married Keith Davis, a professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. Keith Davis adopted Kristin. She also has three stepsisters from her stepfather's first marriage.

When Kristin was young, her family moved to Columbia, South Carolina. Her father worked there as a provost and taught psychology at the University of South Carolina. Kristin knew she wanted to be an actress from the age of nine. Her first acting experience was in a play called Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. She lived in South Carolina until she finished high school at A.C. Flora High School in 1983. After that, she moved to New Jersey to attend Rutgers University. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in acting from Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts in 1987.

Television Roles

After graduating in 1987, Kristin Davis moved to New York City. She worked as a waitress and even opened a yoga studio with a friend. In 1991, she appeared in a few episodes of the TV show General Hospital. She also had guest roles on popular shows like Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and ER.

Her big break came in 1995 when she was cast as Brooke Armstrong Campbell in Melrose Place. She left the show after one year. The next year, she guest-starred in two episodes of Seinfeld.

In 1998, Davis got the role of Charlotte York in ... and the City. She was a main cast member until the series ended in 2004. In 1999, she and the other cast members received the Lucy Award. This award recognized their excellent work that helped improve how women are seen on television. For her role as Charlotte in the final season, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. During her time on ... and the City, she also appeared in episodes of Friends and Will & Grace. She starred in the 1999 miniseries Atomic Train and TV movies like Blacktop (2000) and Three Days (2001).

In 2005, she starred as Miss Spider in the animated TV series Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends. She also appeared as a guest judge on the show Project Runway. In 2012, Davis starred in and produced the TV movie Of Two Minds. She returned to TV series in 2014 with a role in the CBS sitcom Bad Teacher. In 2016, she starred in the Hallmark Channel film A Heavenly Christmas. More recently, in 2020, she hosted the Fox reality series Labor of Love.

Movie Appearances

Kristin Davis's first movie role was in the 1988 comedy film Doom Asylum. In the 1990s, she had smaller roles in films like Nine Months (1995) and Sour Grapes (1998).

Later, she appeared in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D (2005). She also starred in the 2006 version of The Shaggy Dog with Tim Allen, and Deck the Halls with Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito.

In 2008, Davis appeared in the ... and the City movie. The film was very successful, earning $415 million worldwide. It was her first movie to reach number one at the US box office. She played Charlotte York again in the 2010 movie ... and the City 2.

In 2009, Davis co-starred in the romantic comedy Couples Retreat. This movie was about four couples who go to a tropical island for therapy. It also opened at number one at the US box office. In 2010, Davis was cast as the mother of Josh Hutcherson's character in the adventure movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. This film was released in February 2012 and earned over $100 million in the US.

In 2015, Davis was a producer for the documentary Gardeners of Eden. This film talked about the illegal ivory trade. In 2019, she starred in and produced the romantic comedy-drama Holiday in the Wild for Netflix. This movie was suggested to her because of her work helping elephants. In 2021, she played a main role and produced the thriller film Deadly Illusions.

Stage Performances

Kristin Davis made her Broadway debut in July 2012. She joined the play The Best Man at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. In March 2014, she made her West End debut in London. She played Beth Gallagher in the play Fatal Attraction at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket.

Kristin Davis is a Global Ambassador for Oxfam, a charity that works to fight poverty and injustice. She has supported their work since 2004, traveling to places like Haiti, Mozambique, and South Africa. In 2011, she spoke to BBC News about the difficult situation at the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya, where she saw the effects of a severe drought.

During a visit to Africa in 2009, Davis, who loves elephants, found an abandoned baby elephant. She helped arrange for it to be taken to a wildlife rescue center. Because of the attention she brought to orphaned African elephants, Davis received the Humane Society's 2010 Wyler Award. This award is given to public figures who help animals. She also supports the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which protects elephants and other wildlife in Kenya.

In 2023, Kristin Davis received The Perfect World Foundation Award. This award, sometimes called "The Conservationist of the Year," honors people who have made a big difference in protecting nature and animals.

Davis has also worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She is listed as one of their "High Profile Supporters." In 2015, she visited the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. She later filmed an appeal to raise money for the UNHCR. In 2016, she visited Australia to promote the UNHCR's work, focusing on women who have experienced violence in Congo.

Personal Life

Kristin Davis has two adopted children. In 2011, she adopted a daughter named Gemma Rose Davis. In 2018, she adopted a son named Wilson. The family lives in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California.
