The Shaggy Dog is a fun TV movie from 1994. It's a fantasy and comedy film all rolled into one! This movie is a remake of an older film from 1959 with the same name. Walt Disney Television made it, and it first showed on TV on November 12, 1994, as part of the ABC Family Movie series.
It was the first of four remakes of classic Disney live-action movies made for the ABC network. The other movies in this series were The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Escape to Witch Mountain, and Freaky Friday.
What's the Story About?
The movie follows a young boy named Martin "Moochie" Daniels. All Moochie wants is a dog, but his dad, Ron, is very allergic to them. Their new neighbors, Charlie Mulvihill and his niece Franceska, have a big Old English Sheepdog named Bundles. What Moochie doesn't know is that Charlie has secretly trained Bundles to help him steal valuable items.
Moochie's older brother, Wilbur "Wilby," is super smart and loves inventing things. But he's also very shy, especially around girls. He feels a bit jealous of his friend Trey, who seems to have no trouble talking to anyone.
One day, Wilby accidentally finds a magical spell from his dad's collection of strange items. He tries the spell, hoping it will help him with his shyness. Instead, it magically turns him into Bundles, the shaggy dog! Wilby starts changing back and forth between himself and the dog at unexpected times.
While he's a dog, Wilby learns that Charlie plans to steal a special diamond from his father's museum. But how can a dog tell anyone what's happening? And who would ever believe his wild story? Wilby must find a way to stop the theft and turn back into himself for good!
