The Super 6 facts for kids
The Super 6 was a fun animated cartoon series made by DePatie–Freleng Enterprises and Mirisch-Rich Television Productions. It first aired on the NBC television network in 1966 and ran until 1969. This was the first time DePatie–Freleng made a show specifically for Saturday mornings. Even though only one season was made, NBC kept showing it for three years!
The show was a funny take on superheroes. It featured six different heroes who worked for a company called Super Services Inc. They were like "heroes for hire" and were managed by their boss, the Super Chief. Each episode had three short parts. The first part always showed Super Bwoing, and the last part featured one of the other five heroes. The middle part was about a different group called The Brothers Matzoriley.
The catchy theme song for The Super 6 was sung by Gary Lewis & the Playboys.

Meet The Super 6 Heroes
The Super 6 team had these awesome members:
- Super Bwoing: He wasn't very strong-looking and was quite clumsy. He wore a red helmet with wings, like the ancient god Mercury. Super Bwoing flew around on his guitar, the "Super Bwoinger," using its strings like reins. His main power was shooting a super "laser beam" from his eyes, and he also had super strength. Because he was still learning to be a hero, he usually only got jobs when the other heroes were busy. Even though he was clumsy, he almost always caught the bad guys!
- Granite Man: This hero was made completely of gray rock! He was super strong and almost impossible to hurt. He could also deliver a powerful uppercut punch. When he wasn't saving the day, Granite Man was a statue in a park. His helper was Percival, a messenger pigeon. Percival would wake him up by saying, "Granite Man, oh rock of power, awake and face this dangerous hour!"
- Magneto Man: As his name suggests, Magneto Man's powers were all about magnetism. He had a young sidekick named Cal, who was the smart one of the duo. Both heroes were from London and spoke with strong English accents. Magneto Man sounded a bit like the actor Cary Grant.
- Elevator Man: It's funny because he was the shortest of the Super 6! He wore a light gray safari suit. By pressing one of two buttons on his belt, he could either shrink down to the size of an ant or grow into a giant.
- Super Scuba: This hero lived in the ocean and talked like Dean Martin. Super Scuba wore green scuba gear and lived in an underwater cave. His secretary was a mermaid named Bubbles.
- Captain Whammo/Zammo: This hero was strong and had long blonde hair. He usually fought villains who were like military bad guys. He could fly and had incredible strength. When he flew off to save the day, he'd shout, "Thither, Yonder and Away!" Captain Whammo and his partner, Private Hammo, could also travel back in time to different historical events for their missions.
Why Captain Whammo Changed His Name
Captain Whammo appeared in fewer episodes than the other heroes. After his first appearance, his name was changed from "Whammo" to "Zammo." This happened because a company called Wham-O, which made popular toys like the Super Ball, thought the name "Whammo" was too similar to their trademark. It's funny because the first TV commercial shown after Captain Whammo's first episode was actually for the Super Ball!
The Brothers Matzoriley
This part of the show was separate from The Super 6. It starred a very strange character known as "The Brothers Matzoriley." They were like three brothers stuck together in one body, a bit like The Three Stooges! They were always looking for new jobs and often messed things up.
Their names were Weft, Wight, and Wong, which sounded like "left," "right," and "wrong." Even though they shared one body, each head had its own personality. Weft was a tough guy with a Brooklyn accent. Wight was a nervous and scared character. Wong, the middle head, was a smart-aleck who would say funny, silly sayings that started with "Confusion say..."
