Exploring the Village's Buildings

The Village at Black Creek has more than forty buildings from the 1800s. Each building is decorated to look just like it would have in the 1860s. Inside, you'll find people dressed in old clothes who act as historical interpreters. They show you how people lived and worked.
You can see many different kinds of buildings here. There's the Dalziel Barn, old family homes, and the original Stong family farm buildings. There's also a water-powered grist mill that grinds grain. You can visit a general store, a blacksmith's shop, and over ten other shops where people practiced different trades. There's even a hotel, a church, and a one-room schoolhouse.
Some of the buildings, like those built by the Stong family, are still in their original spots. But many others were carefully moved from different parts of Southern Ontario to be part of the village. For example, the blacksmith shop was moved from Nobleton. The gunsmith shop came from Bolton, and the Taylor Cooperage (where barrels were made) came from Paris. The weaver shop is in a building that was once a meeting hall in Kettleby.

The Village at Black Creek works with other important groups. These include the Canadian Museums Association, the Canadian Heritage Information Network, and the Virtual Museum of Canada. These connections help the museum share its history and learn from others.
The Village's Future
The government of Ontario has said that The Village at Black Creek will stay open. This is good news because it means more people can keep learning about history there.
In late 2023, the village announced a name change. By early 2024, it was officially renamed The Village at Black Creek. The people who run the village are also planning to make the museum and visitor center even bigger and better.
