Third Epistle of John facts for kids
The Third Epistle of John is a very short book found in the Christian Bible. It is the sixty-fourth book in the Bible and the twenty-fifth book in the New Testament. Many people believe it is a short letter written by a person named John. It is one of the shortest books in the entire Bible, even shorter than most, except for the Second Epistle of John.
Who Wrote This Letter?
There is some discussion about who exactly wrote this letter. Many believe it was written by John the Apostle. This is the same John who is thought to have written the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation. The way the letter is written and the words it uses are very similar to these other writings. This makes many people think they were all written by the same person.
Who Was the Letter Written To?
This letter was written by John to his good friend named Gaius. It was a personal message meant for him.
What Does the Letter Say?
The message in the Third Epistle of John is similar to what is said in the Second Epistle of John. John wrote to praise Gaius for his strong faith in Jesus. He encouraged Gaius to help others who were working to share the Christian message.
John also mentioned a person named Diotrephes. Diotrephes did not like John's message. John hoped to visit soon and explain that Diotrephes was wrong for not accepting the Christian message and those who shared it. John also said that another person, Demetrius, was living in a good way. We do not know much more about Diotrephes or Demetrius today.
