Thomas Brady (born around 1752, died 1827) was a very important Irish general. He served in the Austrian army during a time called the Napoleonic Wars. He was known for his bravery and leadership.

Early Life and Joining the Army
Thomas Brady was born in Ireland, possibly in a place called Cavan or Cootehill. He started his military career in the Austrian army on November 1, 1769. He was very young, only about 17 years old!
He began as a cadet, which is like a trainee officer. Soon, he was promoted to ensign, then lieutenant, and later captain. He worked hard and moved up the ranks quickly.
A Brave Soldier
Brady showed great courage early in his career. In 1778, he was a lieutenant and stood out at a place called Habelschwerdt.
He was also incredibly brave during a battle at Novi on November 3, 1788. This was during a war between Austria and the Ottoman Empire. For his personal bravery there, he received a very special award called the Maria Theresa Cross. This was a huge honor for a soldier.
Becoming a General
Brady continued to climb higher in the army. In 1790, he became a major. He then served on the army's staff, helping with important plans. In 1793, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.
He later became a colonel in 1794. Colonel Brady led his regiment in battles, like at Frankenthal in 1795. He also showed great skill at Ukerad in 1796.
On September 6, 1796, he became a major general. He served in Italy and commanded troops at Cattaro in 1799. He was promoted again to Lieutenant General in 1801. In 1803, he was made an honorary colonel of a very important infantry regiment.
Important Roles and Retirement
In 1804, General Brady was given a big job: he became the governor of Dalmatia. This was a region that is now part of Croatia.
In 1807, he was recognized for his service as a general leading a division in Bohemia. He was made a privy councilor, which meant he was a trusted advisor to the emperor.
In 1809, General Brady played a very important role in the Battle of Aspern. He commanded a large part of the Austrian army during this major battle.
General Brady retired from the army on September 3, 1809, because of his health. He passed away many years later, on October 16, 1827.
