Thomas Earl Robinson (born March 17, 1991) is a professional basketball player. He was born in America but is also a naturalized Lebanese citizen. He last played for the Taipei Taishin Mars in Taiwan.

Thomas was a top college player for the University of Kansas. He was chosen as the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings.

High School Basketball Journey

Thomas Robinson grew up in Washington, D.C. He went to Eastern High School and Riverdale Baptist. Later, he moved to Brewster Academy in New Hampshire.

During his senior year, he played really well. He averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game. Experts ranked him as one of the best high school players in the country.

College Basketball Career

Thomas Robinson started his junior year at Kansas in the 2011–2012 season. He was one of the top players considered for the John R. Wooden Award. People expected him to be a leader for the Kansas team.

On December 31, 2011, Thomas had an amazing game. He scored 30 points and grabbed 21 rebounds against the University of North Dakota. This was the first time a Kansas player had done that since 1961!

He was second in the country for "double-doubles." A double-double is when a player gets 10 or more in two different stats, like points and rebounds. He averaged 18 points and almost 12 rebounds per game.

During his time in college, Thomas went through a very tough period. He lost his grandmother, grandfather, and mother within three weeks. His coach, Bill Self, said it was amazing that Thomas was still able to play.

On March 4, 2012, Thomas was named the Big 12 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. This award goes to the best player in the Big 12 conference. He also won the Associated Press Big 12 Player of the Year award.

After his junior year, on April 9, 2012, Thomas decided to enter the 2012 NBA draft. He chose to become a professional player instead of finishing his senior year.

Professional Basketball Career

Thomas Robinson started his professional career in the NBA. He played for several teams and also played internationally.

Sacramento Kings (2012–2013)

The Sacramento Kings drafted Thomas fifth overall in 2012. He played for them for part of the season.

Houston Rockets (2013)

In February 2013, Thomas was traded to the Houston Rockets. This trade involved several players.

Portland Trail Blazers (2013–2015)

In July 2013, Thomas was traded again, this time to the Portland Trail Blazers. He had a great game on February 23, 2014, with 14 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

During the 2014–15 season, he got more chances to play when a teammate was injured. He even started his first NBA game, getting 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Philadelphia 76ers (2015)

In February 2015, Thomas was traded to the Denver Nuggets. However, he was released by them shortly after. The Philadelphia 76ers then picked him up.

Brooklyn Nets (2015–2016)

Thomas signed with the Brooklyn Nets in July 2015. He had some strong games for the Nets, including one with 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Los Angeles Lakers (2016–2017)

In September 2016, Thomas joined the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored a season-high 16 points twice during his time with the Lakers.

International Play (2017–Present)

After his time in the NBA, Thomas played for many teams around the world.

  • Khimki (Russia): He played for the Russian club Khimki in 2017–2018 and again in 2020.
  • Beikong Fly Dragons (China): He played in China in 2018–2019.
  • Maine Red Claws (NBA G League): He had a short time in the NBA G League in 2019.
  • Sichuan Blue Whales (China): He returned to China in 2019–2020.
  • Bahçeşehir Koleji (Turkey): He played in Turkey in 2020–2021.
  • Cangrejeros de Santurce (Puerto Rico): He played in Puerto Rico in 2021.

National Team Career

In December 2021, Thomas Robinson received a Lebanese passport. This allowed him to join the Lebanon national basketball team.

Personal Life

Thomas Robinson has faced many challenges in his life. While in college, he lost his grandmother, grandfather, and mother within three weeks. He has a younger sister named Jayla Paris and an older brother named Jamal.

After his family's deaths, Angel Morris helped take care of Thomas and his younger sister. She is the mother of NBA players Marcus and Markieff Morris.

Thomas is a co-founder of the Family Over Everything Foundation (F.O.E). He started this foundation with the Morris twins and their mother.
