Tyshawn Jamar Taylor (born April 12, 1990) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the University of Kansas. After college, he was chosen by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2012 NBA draft.

High School Basketball Journey
Tyshawn Taylor went to St. Anthony High School in New Jersey. He played basketball there for a famous coach named Bob Hurley. In the 2007–08 season, Tyshawn's team had an amazing record, winning all 32 of their games! Because of this, USA Today newspaper named them the best high school basketball team in the country. Tyshawn also appeared in a 2009 movie called The Street Stops Here. This movie was about Coach Hurley and the St. Anthony team.
Experts who scout young players thought Tyshawn was a top talent. In 2008, he was ranked as one of the best point guards in the nation.
College Basketball Career
Tyshawn Taylor played college basketball for the University of Kansas.
Freshman Year Success
In his first year (2008–09), Tyshawn scored about 9.7 points and made 3 assists per game. He was even named to the Big 12 All-Rookie team, which means he was one of the best new players in the conference.
Sophomore and Junior Years
Before his second year, Tyshawn changed his jersey number from 15 to 10. In the 2009–10 season, he helped the Kansas team win both the Big 12 regular season and tournament championships. He averaged 7.2 points and 3.4 assists per game.
In his third year, Tyshawn averaged 9.3 points and 4.6 assists. He led his team in assists and was fourth in the Big 12 conference. At one point, he was temporarily suspended from the team for not following team rules.
Senior Year Highlights
In his final year at Kansas, Tyshawn started for the fourth straight season. He almost doubled his scoring average from previous years. Tyshawn and another star player, Thomas Robinson, led Kansas all the way to the 2012 national championship game. They played against Kentucky but lost a close game.
Professional Basketball Journey
Playing for the Brooklyn Nets (2012–2014)
On June 28, 2012, Tyshawn Taylor was picked by the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA draft. He was the 41st player chosen overall. Soon after, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He signed with the Nets on July 6, 2012.
When the Nets' main point guard, Deron Williams, was injured, Tyshawn got a chance to play more. In one game, he scored a career-high 12 points and played for 34 minutes, helping the Nets beat the Indiana Pacers. During his time with the Nets, he also played for their minor league team, the Springfield Armor, in the NBA D-League.
Moving to Other Teams (2014–2020)
After his time with the Nets, Tyshawn played for several different teams.
- In January 2014, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans but was waived before playing a game for them.
- He then joined the Maine Red Claws in the NBA D-League.
- Later in 2014, Tyshawn played for Atléticos de San Germán in Puerto Rico.
- From 2014 to 2015, he played for Dynamo Moscow in Russia.
- In 2015, he returned to Puerto Rico to play for Indios de Mayagüez.
- In 2016, Tyshawn played for Guaros de Lara in Venezuela.
- From 2016 to 2017, he played for Maccabi Kiryat Gat in Israel.
- In 2017, he joined Ankara DSİ in Turkey.
- In 2018, he played for Samsun BSB Anakent, also in Turkey.
- From 2018 to 2020, Tyshawn played for Auxilium Torino, an Italian basketball club.
- In 2020, he signed with the Saigon Heat in the ASEAN Basketball League.
Retirement from Basketball
On October 25, 2021, Tyshawn Taylor announced that he was retiring from playing professional basketball.
The Basketball Tournament (TBT)
Tyshawn Taylor also played in The Basketball Tournament, which is a special basketball competition shown on ESPN. He played for Team FOE, a team from Philadelphia coached by NBA players Markieff and Marcus Morris.
In 2017, Tyshawn played four games for Team FOE. He averaged 12.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. His team made it to the "Super 16 Round" in Brooklyn, New York, but they lost to a team called Boeheim's Army. Tyshawn also played in TBT in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, he averaged 17.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
International Basketball Experience
Tyshawn Taylor proudly represented USA Basketball in the 2009 FIBA Under-19 World Cup. His team won the gold medal! Tyshawn was a key player, averaging 10.8 points and 4.4 assists per game, which were the highest on his team. In the final game against Greece, he scored 18 points and had 6 assists, helping the United States secure the championship. After the tournament, Tyshawn was named to the five-person All-Star team for the event.
