Thomas Timothy Fallon (born August 17, 1837 – died August 23, 1916) was an American soldier who came from Ireland. He fought bravely in the American Civil War. Fallon received the Medal of Honor, which is the highest award for bravery in the United States. He earned this special award for his actions in two important battles: the Battle of Williamsburg in 1862 and the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain in 1864. He was given the Medal of Honor on February 13, 1891.
Biography
Thomas Timothy Fallon was born in County Galway, Ireland, on August 17, 1837. In 1859, he moved to the United States. Four years later, in 1863, he married Catherine Garrity, who was also an Irish immigrant. They made their home in Freehold, New Jersey, and had two daughters.
Military Service
Fallon joined the 37th New York Infantry in May 1861. He served in the Battles of Williamsburg and Fair Oaks about a year later. He left the army in December 1862.
Right away, he joined the 4th US Artillery Regiment. After leaving the army a second time in May 1863, he joined the 35th New Jersey Infantry. Here, he served as a sergeant. He left the army for the last time in July 1865, when the Civil War ended.
A Hero's Award: The Medal of Honor
The Medal of Honor is the highest military award given by the United States government. It is given to members of the U.S. armed forces who show extreme bravery and risk their lives during combat.
Thomas Timothy Fallon earned this incredible award for his actions in two different battles:
- During the Battle of Williamsburg in May 1862, he showed great courage.
- During the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain (near Big Shanty, Georgia) in June 1864, he again acted with exceptional bravery.

Thomas Timothy Fallon passed away on August 23, 1916. He was buried at the Saint Rose of Lima Cemetery in Freehold, New Jersey.
