This mountain is found in the Canadian province of Alberta. It is a part of the stunning Canadian Rockies mountain range. Another mountain, Mount Palmer, is quite close, lying just 1.5 kilometers (about 1 mile) to the west.

Who was J. Monroe Thorington?

The mountain was given its name in 1967. It was named after J. Monroe Thorington, an American doctor who specialized in eyes, called an ophthalmologist. Mr. Thorington was also a very keen climber. He explored and climbed many mountains in the Selkirks and the Canadian Rockies during the 1920s and 1930s.

First Climbers

The very first time someone successfully climbed to the top of Thorington Tower was in September 1967. This amazing feat was achieved by two climbers named Don Lashier and Charlie Raymond.
