Thorndale is a community located in Caln Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. In 2010, about 3,407 people lived there. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's a specific area identified by the government for counting people. However, it is not officially a town or city with its own local government.
Thorndale is like the main hub for business and local government in Caln Township. The community's main road is U.S. Route 30 Business. Many older homes in Thorndale were replaced with new businesses starting in the late 1990s.
Thorndale is famous for once having a summer house belonging to James Buchanan, a former U.S. President. This house is still standing today. It has been made part of a golf course and now serves as a restaurant. The community also has the Thorndale Fire Station and Caln Elementary School. Students from this area attend schools in the Coatesville Area School District. Thorndale is also a stop on SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale Line, which is the last station on that route. The SEPTA Route 135 bus also serves the area.
