Thurston is a small town located in Steuben County, New York, United States. In 2020, about 1,248 people lived there. The town gets its name from an early landowner named William Thurston. You can find the Town of Thurston in the east-central part of Steuben County, just northwest of the city of Corning.

History of Thurston
Thurston was first settled around the year 1813. The town was officially created in 1844. It was formed from a part of the Town of Cameron. In 1890, the population of Thurston was 1,113 people.

Thurston covers a total area of about 36.5 square miles (94.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 36.4 square miles (94.15 square kilometers). A small part, about 0.1 square miles (0.43 square kilometers), is water.
A road called County Road 333 goes through the town. This road used to be known as New York State Route 333.

Communities and Places in Thurston
The Town of Thurston includes several smaller communities and locations:
- Bonny Hill – This is a small village, or hamlet, located in the northwest part of the town. It was the first place settled in Thurston. It was named after an early landowner, Luke Bonny.
- North Thurston – Another hamlet, found near the northern border of the town on County Road 12.
- Risingville – This hamlet is west of the main Thurston village. It was named after its first postmaster. You can find it where County Roads 11 and 24 meet. It is also where County Road 333 ends.
- South Thurston – A hamlet located southeast of Thurston village, along County Road 2.
- Thurston – This is the main hamlet of Thurston. It is located on County Road 333, next to Michigan Creek. The creek widens here to form Thurston Pond. This community used to be called "Merchantville," named after an early settler, Edwin Merchant.
