Tickfaw State Park is a super cool place located in Livingston Parish, Louisiana. It's about 7 miles (11 km) west of Springfield. The park first opened its doors in May 1999. It quickly became one of Louisiana's most loved state parks. People love it because of its beautiful natural areas, fun things to do, and how close it is to big cities like New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

At the park, you'll find a nature center where you can learn about the local wildlife. There are also picnic spots, a big pond for fishing, 14 cozy cabins, and 50 campsites if you want to stay overnight.

Exploring Tickfaw State Park

Tickfaw State Park covers about 1,200 acres (486 hectares) of land. A lot of this area is in the Tickfaw River floodplain, which means it can sometimes get flooded. About 560 acres (227 hectares) of the park, west of the Tickfaw River, are kept wild and undeveloped.

Discovering Different Habitats

The park has trails and more than 1 mile (1.6 km) of boardwalks. These boardwalks let you explore four different types of natural areas:

  • Cypress-Tupelo Swamp: This is a wet area with tall cypress and tupelo trees growing in the water.
  • Bottomland Hardwood Forest: A forest found in low-lying areas, with many different kinds of hardwood trees.
  • Mixed Pine Hardwood Forest: Here, you'll see a mix of pine trees and hardwood trees.
  • Tickfaw River: The main river that flows through the park.
