Tie Siding is a very small community in southeastern Wyoming, United States. It's located in Albany County, about 18 miles south of a bigger town called Laramie. It's also only about eight miles north of the Colorado border. Tie Siding sits high up, at an elevation of 7,694 feet. Because it's so small, it wasn't counted as a special place in the 2010 Census.
A Look Back at Tie Siding's History
Tie Siding was an important spot for early railroad companies. From the late 1860s to the early 1900s, railroads were expanding across the American West. Tie Siding was chosen as a key location to help build and maintain these rail systems.
The small community worked closely with nearby railroad towns in Colorado. These towns included places like Virginia Dale, LaPorte, and Pingree Park.
In 1886, a wealthy banker and merchant named Edward Ivinson visited Tie Siding. He got off a train there and thought about building a house and a hospital. However, he later went back to Laramie, a few miles north. In Laramie, he built a large home for himself in 1892, which is now known as the Ivinson Mansion.
Today, Tie Siding is still very small. It mainly has a combination flea market and a post office.
