Tignall became an official town in 1907. This means the Georgia General Assembly, which is like the state's main law-making group, gave it the power to govern itself. The town was named after Tignall Livingston Moss. He was a soldier, a lieutenant in the Confederate army, who sadly died in a battle in 1862.
