Timothy Byram-Wigfield started his musical journey early. He was a chorister (a child singer in a choir) at King's College, Cambridge. There, he learned from famous musicians like David Willcocks and Philip Ledger.
After his time as a chorister, he studied at the Royal College of Music. He focused on playing the organ, piano, and viola. Later, he became an organ scholar (a student who helps with organ playing and choir duties) at Christ Church, Oxford. He then served as a sub-organist at Winchester Cathedral.
In 1991, Timothy Byram-Wigfield became the Master of the Music at St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh (Episcopal). This meant he was in charge of all the music there. In 1999, he took on a new role as Director of Music at Jesus College, Cambridge. Then, in 2004, he was appointed Director of Music at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. From 1993 to 1998, he trained the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Chorus. This is a group of singers who perform with an orchestra. Starting in 1999, he became the Conductor of the Northampton Bach Choir. In 2008, he was named Associate Conductor of the Oxford Bach Choir. This means he helped lead this large choir.
He also shares his musical knowledge by teaching. He teaches both the organ and the piano at Eton College, a famous school.
In 2013, he became the Director of Music at All Saints, Margaret Street. He held this position until November 2018.
