Tiwanaku is a small village in Bolivia, a country in South America. It is located in the La Paz Department. About 860 people live here. Tiwanaku is famous because it is very close to an ancient and important archaeological site, also called Tiwanaku. This site holds the ruins of a powerful civilization that existed long ago.
Location and Importance
Tiwanaku village is found in the Altiplano, a high plateau in the Andes Mountains. It sits at a very high elevation, over 3,600 meters (about 11,800 feet) above sea level. This makes the air thin and the climate cool.
The village is located just south of the famous Tiwanaku archaeological site. This ancient city was once the capital of a major pre-Inca civilization. Today, the ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many visitors come to the village of Tiwanaku to explore these historical treasures.
Climate
Tiwanaku has a cool and somewhat wet climate, typical of high-altitude regions. The temperatures do not change much throughout the year. Days are generally mild, but nights can be quite cold, especially in the dry season.
The village experiences two main seasons. There is a rainy season from December to March, and a dry season from May to August. Even during the rainy season, the amount of rain is not extremely high.
