Todd Crag is a small hill in Cumbria, England. It stands 224 meters (735 feet) tall. Even though it's not big enough to be called a "fell" (a type of hill in the Lake District), it offers amazing views! It's like a smaller helper peak to a bigger hill called Loughrigg Fell, and it's located very close to the town of Ambleside.

Where is Todd Crag?
Todd Crag is surrounded by other hills and mountains. To the south, you can see the large Windermere lake. The town of Ambleside is to the east. It's important not to mix it up with another hill also named Todd Crag, which is in a different valley far away.
Views from Ambleside
From Ambleside, Todd Crag can look a bit mysterious. Its eastern and southern sides are covered with trees. These trees lead up to grassy areas and then to a rocky top. The rocks on top are sharp and spiky, almost like teeth! After the very top, the hill gently dips down as it continues towards Loughrigg Fell.
What is it Made Of?
The rocks that make up Todd Crag are a type of volcanic rock. They are called dacitic welded lapilli-tuff and volcaniclastic sandstone. These are common types of rocks found in the Lake District area.
How to Climb Todd Crag
Climbing Todd Crag is an exciting adventure! The path usually starts at Rothey Park.
- You begin by following the road over a bridge.
- When you reach the "cattlerids" (which are like cattle grids), you turn sharply left onto a steep road.
- You follow this road until you reach a wall with slate steps, where the woods begin.
- The path then turns left, leading you through the woods and over another bridge.
- Keep following the path until you reach a "style" (which used to be a way to cross a fence, but it's gone now).
- From here, you get your first good look at the rocky top that you can see from Ambleside. This is the start of the area known as the Tarn Tor Crags.
Reaching the Top
Once you reach the very top of Todd Crag, you'll be rewarded with amazing views! You can see Windermere lake and many other valleys around. The highest point is marked by a small pile of stones called a cairn. This cairn will be replaced with a better marker soon.
