Togrul Narimanbekov (born August 7, 1930 – died June 2, 2013) was a very important and famous modern artist from Azerbaijan. He was known for his amazing paintings and unique style. He also had a talent for singing opera!

Early Life and Family
Togrul Narimanbekov was born in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan. His father, Farman Narimanbekov, came from a town called Shusha. He studied in Toulouse, France. In 1929, he returned to Baku and helped build a big power plant called the Mingachevir Hydro Power Plant.
Togrul's mother, Irma Laroudé, was French. Because of difficult times in the 1930s, his mother had to move far away to Uzbekistan. She stayed there until 1961.
Becoming an Artist
Togrul Narimanbekov loved art from a young age. He studied at the Azerbaijan Art School, which was named after a famous artist, Azim Azimzade. Later, from 1950 to 1955, he went to the Vilnius Academy of Art in Lithuania to continue his art education.
He believed that art should always connect back to a country's own culture and traditions. He described his own art as a mix of different styles. He combined "abstract" art, which uses shapes and colors to show feelings, with "figurative" art, which shows real objects and people.
Achievements and Recognition
Togrul Narimanbekov received many important awards for his art.
- In 1967, he was named a People's Artist of Azerbaijan. This is a very high honor for artists in Azerbaijan.
- In 1980, he won the USSR State Prize, which was a major award in the Soviet Union.
- He also received the Order of Sovereignty in 2000 and the Order of Glory in 2010 from Azerbaijan.
Besides his painting, Togrul Narimanbekov had a wonderful singing voice. When he was younger, he performed songs from both Azerbaijani and international composers.
He lived in Paris, France, for some time and also became a French citizen. He passed away in Paris when he was 82 years old.

Togrul Narimanbekov came from an artistic family.
- His brother, Vidadi Narimanbekov, was also a talented artist.
- Togrul had a daughter named Asmar Narimanbekova from his first marriage. She is also an artist and a professor at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts.
- His son, François Narimanbekov, was born in 2001 from his second marriage.
