Tom Berenger was born Thomas Michael Moore in Chicago, Illinois, on May 31, 1949. His family had Irish roots. His father worked as a printer and a salesman. Tom also has a sister named Susan.
He finished high school in 1967 at Rich East High School. Later, he went to the University of Missouri to study journalism. However, after graduating in 1971, he decided he wanted to be an actor instead.
Starting His Acting Career
After college, Tom worked in local theaters. In 1972, he even worked as a flight attendant for an airline. He moved to New York City in 1973 to pursue acting more seriously.
He had to change his name professionally because there was already another actor named "Tom Moore." So, he chose "Berenger" as his stage name.
