In 2012, Danielson continued to perform well. He finished third overall in the 2012 Tour of California. He also won a stage in the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge by riding solo up Independence Pass. This stage was called "the most exciting day of road racing on American soil" by Bicycling magazine.
Danielson returned to racing in 2013 after a break. He finished tenth overall at the 2013 Volta a Catalunya. He also won the 2013 Tour of Utah and placed third overall in the 2013 USA Pro Cycling Challenge.

Fair Play and Rules
During his career, Tom Danielson faced suspensions for breaking cycling rules. In 2012, he accepted a six-month suspension after admitting to rule violations from earlier in his career. This meant some of his past race results were removed. Danielson expressed regret for his choices.
