Toney Bernard Douglas (born March 16, 1986) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for FC Porto in Portugal.
Toney started his college basketball journey at Auburn University. He later moved to Florida State University. There, he became a strong defensive player, setting records for steals. In his final year, he led his team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 11 years.
Toney was picked by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2009 NBA draft. However, he was quickly traded to the New York Knicks. He played for several NBA teams, including the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat. After playing in China, he returned to the NBA with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Toney Douglas was born in Tampa, Florida. He moved to Jonesboro, Georgia, when he was young. He went to Jonesboro High School. There, he was a starter on the basketball team for three years. His brother, Harry, also played on the team.
High School Achievements
In his second year (2001–02), Toney averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. He was the first sophomore to earn top honors in his region and state. In his third year, he averaged 28.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. He scored 20 points or more in 24 games that season.
Toney was named the Georgia Class 5A Player of the Year. He helped his team reach the state championship game. As a senior, he averaged 34 points per game. He left Jonesboro High as the top scorer in Clayton County, with 2,404 points. He was also nominated for the McDonald's All-American team.

Playing for Auburn
In his first year (2004–05) at Auburn, Toney played as a shooting guard. He led the team in scoring, with 16.9 points per game. He scored a career-high 38 points in one game. He was recognized as one of the best freshmen in the nation. He was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team.
Switching Teams and Positions
After his first year, Toney considered joining the NBA draft. However, he decided to stay in college. He and his family were not happy with his role at Auburn. Toney wanted to play as a point guard, which he felt was his natural position.
His coach allowed him to transfer to a different university outside the SEC. On June 29, 2005, Toney joined Florida State University. The coach there, Leonard Hamilton, let him play point guard. Due to NCAA rules, Toney had to sit out the 2005–06 season. He started playing for Florida State in the 2006–07 season.

Sophomore Year Highlights
Toney had to adjust to the point guard role at Florida State. He still played very well. He made a key shot block that helped his team win against the fourth-ranked University of Florida Gators. In another game, he scored 10 points in a row to help Florida State win.
In February 2007, Toney injured his right hand. He missed six games. When he returned, he scored 13 points in his first game back. He even made a three-pointer that tied the game and forced overtime. Florida State won that game. He finished the season averaging 12.7 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game.
Junior Year Defense
In his junior year, Toney continued to improve as a point guard. He helped create scoring chances for his teammates. His defense got much better. He averaged 2.6 steals per game, which was the highest in the ACC. He had 48 steals against ACC teams, one of the best totals in league history.
After the season, Toney was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team. He was also selected for the All-ACC Third Team. He finished the season with 90 steals. He led his team in scoring (15.4 points per game), steals (2.6 per game), and assists (2.6 per game).
Senior Year Leadership
In his senior year (2008–09), Toney was one of the most experienced players on the team. He started all 35 games. He became the main scorer for his team in 23 games. His scoring average jumped to 21.5 points per game, the highest in the ACC. He also averaged a career-high 2.9 assists and 3.9 rebounds.
He earned ACC All-Defensive Team honors again. He was also chosen for the All-ACC First Team. He was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. He also received many votes for ACC Player of the Year. Toney was selected to the Associated Press' All-America Third Team.
In the ACC tournament, Toney helped his team upset top-ranked North Carolina. They reached their first ACC final. This led to him being selected for the ACC All-Tournament team. The Seminoles made it to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 11 years. Toney scored 26 points in their game, but they lost in overtime. This ended his college career.
Professional Basketball Career
Toney Douglas was picked by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2009 NBA draft. He was the 29th overall pick. Soon after, he was traded to the New York Knicks.
NBA Teams
- New York Knicks (2009–2012): Toney signed with the Knicks in July 2009. He scored a career-high 30 points in a game against the Chicago Bulls in November 2010. He also tied a Knicks record by making nine three-pointers in a game in March 2011.
- Houston Rockets (2012–2013): In July 2012, Toney was traded to the Houston Rockets. He scored a season-high 22 points against the Los Angeles Lakers in December 2012.
- Sacramento Kings (2013): In February 2013, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings.
- Golden State Warriors (2013–2014): Toney signed with the Golden State Warriors in July 2013. He played in 24 games for them.
