River system Saint Lawrence River drainage basin

Tooeys Creek is a small stream located in a beautiful part of Ontario, Canada. It flows through Greater Madawaska in Renfrew County, which is in Eastern Ontario. This creek is an important part of a much larger water system that eventually leads to the huge Saint Lawrence River. Tooeys Creek even helps form another stream called Black Donald Creek.

Where Does Tooeys Creek Flow?

Tooeys Creek begins its journey at the southeast end of Tooeys Lake. From there, it flows towards the southwest. You can spot it near a rest area on Ontario Highway 41.

Following the Creek's Path

As it travels, the creek actually passes back and forth underneath Highway 41. It then reaches its end where it joins with an unnamed stream. Together, they form the beginning of Black Donald Creek.

The Creek's Journey to the Ocean

Black Donald Creek then flows into Black Donald Lake. From there, the water continues into the Madawaska River. The Madawaska River then joins the mighty Ottawa River. Finally, the Ottawa River flows into the massive Saint Lawrence River, which eventually reaches the Atlantic Ocean. This whole system is called the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin.

What is a Drainage Basin?

A drainage basin, also known as a watershed, is like a giant funnel. It's an area of land where all the water, from rain or melting snow, drains into a common point. This point could be a river, a lake, or even the ocean.

Why are Drainage Basins Important?

Every creek, river, and lake is part of a drainage basin. They are super important because they show how all water sources are connected. What happens upstream can affect areas downstream. This means keeping our creeks and rivers clean helps keep the larger water systems healthy too!
